This is a much closer match up than most people realise. Also take into account how the French and Swedish pilots are trained. Both Airforces train their pilots to have excellent decision making skills. And, give their pilots the ability to make those decisions. Rather than consider them rivals, consider how well they will complement each other in a High-Low mix. Both are excellent weapons systems!

Gripen also is cheaper to build and maintain as well as it requires less logistic. Gripen is by far the better aircraft.

Good comparison. The numbers for the fuel capacity is wrongly used though; the amount of fuel is insignificant, what's interesting is how far it gets you. The Gripen is way lighter than the Rafale. Range should be a separate point.

Did not mention the versatility of gripen like can land on paved road due to shorter distance take off, cheaper cost per hour flight, shorter period to load weapons, & more agile due to delta wing design

Maximum take-off weight: 16,500 kg. Empty weight (8,000kg) + Internal fuel (3,400kg) = 11,400kg. Maximum take-off weight (16,500kg) - 11,400 = 5,100kg external load.

Btw, that 8 000 kg empty weight is just a "placeholder" number presently. We will have to wait & see what the final number will be.. The real number will ofcourse never be published..

overall Rafale is more usefull on battlefield. Carrier capacities make all the diff, more payload, more range, and able to carry nuclear missiles !
