Weird im surprised they blocked this. Im not sure if you noticed that this was a mash up of two different songs? The main track scott sings is Dua Lipas "New Rules" but Kevin and Matt are doing the bass/beatbox line of Aliyah's "Are you that somebody" They mash it throughout the song,,,,when Kirsten and Mitch sing during the chorus, they sing "Are you that somebody, tell me you're somebody" And then in the breakdown they sing "If i let you go..." which is totally from Aliyah's song....if yo relisten you'll be amazed. I, like you, initially kind of took Scott for granted. I knew he was good and usually sang the lead and i focused on everyone else. Once, I specifically listened to Scott- he's a freaking beast! He's actually my favorite now- especially because i've gone to eight of their concerts- Scott sings lead on the majority of songs and it must be exhausting...not sure how he does it! You should watch his song with Rozzi called "Lose Us' There you will hear super soulful Scott in his element. This song deserves so many more views than it has. i promise you'll dig it. Thank you Jamie!
@mimisunflower40624 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely!!!!
@garyblocker91354 жыл бұрын
Really insightful. Ditto all of your points EXCEPT the suggestion that not having the lead is less demanding. Probably NOT true for PTX performances - because their "backup" parts are so demanding: When not providing those tight harmonies, they're filling the background sound space with vocals to replace instrumental parts. When transitioning, the lead vocalist often follows a melody note with a backup note without even taking a breath. In some cases, the lead may actually have more time pausing than the backups. To be sure, sometimes their backup parts are less demanding - just far less so than typical in arrangements with accompanying instruments.

scott got to me in Havana, and then Sound of Silence completely sealed the deal. But before that I never gave him too much attention. Feel kinda bad about that now, he's really good

After watching Pentatonix for many years, I'm pretty sure that Kirsten and Mitch share a brain because there is no other explanation for how they can sound like one voice all the time. Every vowel, every intonation, every note they sing together is absolutely perfect. It's unbelievable. Also, it always makes me laugh when reactors aren't sure if it's Mitch because of changes in his look when I can pick his voice out in every single song they do. Just close your eyes and listen and you won't be asking if it's Mitch or not anymore. And Matt and Kevin absolutely crush this song.
@musicfanatic65584 жыл бұрын
That "dim" "dim" "dim" "dim" you hear at various places in the song are done by 1.Kirstin, 2.Mitch, 3.Scott, & then 4.Kevin in that order. It's pretty cool. Please react to "I need your Love" when they performed on the Sing-Off the following season after winning it.

Every member of Pentatonix is extremely talented and you can tell they have trained HARD to perfect their craft. Avi is of course my favourite and I miss him terribly in the group but love his solo stuff. Mitch is my second favourite. His voice is just angelic. He is incredibly talented and what he does, (high notes), is equally as difficult and impressive as Avi's low notes.

Can someone please please join me in recommending that Jase check out some of PTX's old Sing-Off videos, so he can see how all this insanity started and just how mind-blowing they were right from the start? Their journey has been so crazy! Little high school kids in cheezy matching outfits setting the stage on FIRE every week, blowing the judges' ears off, rendering Shawn Stockman utterly speechless... Oh man, it was such a treat!!! Born to be Wild, Alien, Let's Get it On, And Dog Days are Over, which nailed the win for them, were some of their most amazing stand-out performances, and so worth watching/hearing!! Jase dude... DOOOOO ITTTT!!!

Chains by Avi; Down by Kevin; I Should Tell Your Momma On You by Scott; Can't Hold Us, Sing, La La Latch, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Aha! Maybe it's just because this was the first song that I really listened to Matt in, but I think Matt kills this song! He sounds a) absolutely amazing and b) like he fits right in with them. I haven't been following them too closely since Avi left just because I haven't been too interested in the songs they've chosen to cover since then, but I think Matt truly was the absolute best they as a group and we as fans could have hoped for to fill Avi's shoes.

They are each, as individual humans, incredibly, undeniably talented (Avi, obvi, included). The fact that they found each other to create music of such high caliber is a for reals a gift from God. From the timbre of their voices to the killer arrangements, it's ALL good. Bathe in the warmth of their sound, put a fork in me I'm done GOOD. There will never be another Avi, but Matt doesn't need to be Avi - he just needs to keep killing it while being himself! Other PTX requests: Can't Help Falling In Love, How Great Thou Art, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, White Christmas, O Come All Ye Faithful, Joy to the World, Hark! The Herald Angel Sings. Even if you don't post your reactions to all of them, it's just important that you listen to them. Your soul needs to hear these songs.

If you want a pin in an unusual place on your map, check out Pamyua (west and north-central Alaska). I like the version of 'Cauyaqa Nauwa' from Verses, but the one from Mengluni is good, too, and gives a translation without the excessive (in my opinion) didgeridoo. They don't have many videos on KZbin because they were most popular back in the 'before times,' and their goal was never to make money. Good harmonies, good beat- appropriate for a song about a drum and yuraq. They sing in Yup'ik on this one, though they branch into Inuit and Athabaskan on other songs.
