These lessons are perfect! I started learning Welsh using Duolingo and kept an eye out for a really good teacher to properly explain the grammar concepts, as well as teaching the vocabulary, and this channel does exactly that. I'm working through every video on this channel and the mist has finally cleared - I am understanding so much more. Thank you very much, keep up the excellent work!

This is the very best Welsh lesson I've had in every sense! Tackling what could be a really difficult subject, mutations, with ease! And in a way that actually makes the need for mutations make sense! The format here is perfect too! And the graphics are excellent! Diolch yn fawr iawn Jason! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏆

Just when you thought Welsh couldn't get any more difficult ..... It's made harder with mutations .

Mutations are a nuisance but they get easier with practice. In the meantime Welsh speakers will understand you without the mutations.

@@LearnWelshPodcast Thanks Jason Sir, I'm plodding on with my Learning Welsh Journey, Even though I'm Welsh , Born in Cardiff , Welsh was denied me in School in favour of French and German, It's only in the last six months or so I've really pressed on with trying to learn it , I have days where I think I'm really making progress , Then other days where I'm going backwards in leaps and bounds , Your lesson and the internet in general is a godsend when it comes to this .....Diolch .

This us the very basis of other concepts like vowel harmony in turkish and greek ( usually described as 1st 2nd and 3rd declensions) or rounding sounds in japanese ( the wo particle) or the "ge" in German past participle.

Hi Jason. Thanks for the information on the mutations. I’m a little confused as to the reason for the mutations in the examples. It seems as though the audible difference between Yn Gorseinon and Yng Ngorseinon are negligible. Dw’n trio dyschu Cymraeg.... but having learnt some French, the liaison between their words generally aids pronunciation so I just wondered if this subtle mutation in Welsh serves any purpose other than being a grammatical rule. Diolch. Gareth.

Ever since I've started watching the video lessons, I've been feeling way more confident about pronouncing the difficult Welsh phonemes thanks to your exemplifications and your way of teaching! Fortunately, I've never had problems with the Celtic mutations but I recognize your way of teaching them will certainly make these complex features so much easier for all leaners alike; I just would have one doubt about the pronunciation of the pronoun nhw. I thought to have heard only /nu/, i.e. without the aspirated sound /h/, is that correct or it does have a /h/ phoneme after the initial n? Diolch yn fawr in advance!

The pronunciation of Nhw depends on accent. In South Wales you’ll mostly here it pronounced Nu or with a slight H sound after the N. But in some parts of North Wales you’ll hardly hear the N sound whilst the H sound is very heavily pronounced.
