This is a very cool piece! My favorite bit is the beginning from 0:25 or so to 1:35 or so, where the piano and the alto flute sound ineffably Spanish somehow. Like a night in the gardens of Spain.

That's because it's based on a piece by an actual Spanish composer -- the second movement of the _Concierto de Aranjuez_ by Joaquin Rodrigo.

Just found an article explaining (amongst other things) how the intro was inspired by Gil Evans' arrangement of Rodrigo's Concerto on Miles Davis's Sketches of Spain (www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2011/11/how-chick-corea-wrote-spain/248948/). Apparently Rodrigo disliked Evans' arrangement, but made a good amount of money from royalties...

Worth mentioning that the flute player on the original recording was Joe Farrell, a jazz musician who was primarily a saxophonist, but one of the handful of jazz players to take the flute very seriously. He plays flute on a number of Return to Forever tracks.
