Video 3: the flute is called 笛子 (dízi), and I used to play it (I started in college and had to stop when I graduated because the prices for lessons got too expensive and I couldn’t even line up my schedule with my teacher’s). The song is called 《无羁》 (Wú Jī, Unrestrained) and it’s from a Chinese drama called The Untamed (陈情令), and the player’s name is Chen Yue. She’s essentially a master dizi player (among other Chinese wind instruments).

I really enjoyed this! Wow, My heart broke for the first young woman. She’s incredibly talented and I hope she bounced back and did not let that cruel event discourage her. The second performer is Chen Yue and the very song she is playing Wu Ji is the reason I learned to play dizi. It’s from an incredible Chinese drama series called (The Untamed). The OST from the show is so beautiful I was inspired to get back into music after many, many, years. So don't let anyone tell you no, if you love do it!

Let's face it - simon bowelmovement doesn't like actual musicians. They're out of sight/out of mind for him, but they are far more important than he can ever know even if they don't fit his ideal, image or aesthetic. Without musicians doing all the hard work, he wouldn't be anywhere - he needs musicians more than musicians need him.

In the third video is it possible to play the same piece on the concert flute (mimicking the trills, dips, and intonation)? Sadly not surprised by Simon Cowell and his reaction. As Two Set Violin noted, the only classical piece that is accepted on these TV shows is Flight of the Bumblebee (played as absolutely fast as possible even if it sounds like crap). James Galway or Jean-Pierre Rampal (my flute idol but love Galway as well) would just be dismissed and that's sad.

Thank you for the beautiful video. You speak so appreciatively about other flutists that it is a pleasure to watch. James Galway and Ian Anderson were also among the heroes of my youth. Much later - maybe 15 years ago - Greg Patillo came along. That was a turning point for my work. Greg is such a good musician. And then there's your superb playing, Jasmine, that keeps me busy, especially the colours of long notes and melodies. P.S. I would be very interested to know how you approach the Bach Solo Partita

I play the Alto Saxophone and my friend plays the flute, she can move people to tears when she plays. I can't do that with the sax. Isn't music supposed to touch you? The flute is a wonderful instrument, Simon Cowell is not ignorant though. He can make more money with a young kid with a half decent voice.
