After filming this video, it was brought to my attention that foreigners leaving Ukraine (i.e. Africans, Indians, non-white minorities) may be facing discrimination at the border crossing. For now, I've included a list of charities in the description box that was shared a few days ago. I will research groups that are helping EVERYONE and foreigners specifically. If you know of anything, please share below.

Assess for yourself whether it is discrimination to evacuate the weakest first. For example, some trains are only for women and children. Ukrainian men aged 18-60 are not allowed to cross the border. Only men from other countries can evacuate. Seen from their point of view, the lack of access to such trains can be perceived as discriminatory.

It is surprising that, as you said here, the Americans in Ukraine had received a warning before the war began. One of the complaints I heard from the African students (online) is that they did not receive a warning at all...

I live in the northeast, where the Ukrainian minority lives from post-war migration. There are also a lot of workers from Ukraine working with us in factories. Everyone is treated as normal. I have heard that Ukrainian women working as domestic helpers in large cities experience degrading treatment, jokes about prostitution.

What you discussed on unity was very interesting. I’ve been living in Spain for over 5 years and they can be very classist people here. They turn up their noses and speak quite negatively towards Eastern Europeans, but after the Ukraine situation, they united like no other. I asked a Spaniard about this and he said “it’s because we look alike.” Essentially stating in a sense, we’re all white Europeans at the end of the day, we must help one another. I thought that was pretty eye opening.

The issue is the African countries had to coordinate asylum for its citizens elsewhere outside of the country and at the time the students arrived at the border there was no agreement what countries they could go into yet. That has now happened they are now coordinating buses and places to get them now.

It's so beautiful to see that building is lit as a Ukranian flag colours !! 😍 And see the Ukranian flags waving everywhere in Warsaw !! As well as so good to see you doing well there ! Political & religious views depart people easily !! Lol. I am sending you hugs & best wishes from L A. ! Praying that this war will end soon ! I pray for both Ukranians & Russians as it's Putin's war & some old folks in Russia & some people from ex Soviet neighbour countries want to take it back ,I've met many in L A.!! Years ago ,though !! I was shocked !! 😲 But many ,believe the most young Russians don't want this ,or any war !!! I love Russians ! Their figure skaters & ballet dancers all of my life ! I've always loved Tolstoy & Tchaikovsky !!! Off course ,I am on Ukranian side ! But, it was crazy that Ukranian foreign ambassador ? Sorry ,forgot who ,I am gonna look into it again ,but he asked other countrymen to join with Ukrain to fight !!! Also British foreign secretary said on TV that she'd back Brits to go join Ukrainians individually !! WHAAT !!? The heck !! Does she want WW3 !!!? It is very wrong to instigate a big war such as WW3 from a smaller war & asking other country's citizens to fight for them !!! I respect Kiev mayor for fighting & his brother ,too ,they're not making just citizens to fight for their country besides their military ..But , asking other country's civilians to fight there for them is a no no & very dangerous !! Hoping everything will come to end soon !!! Please stay safe ! 🙏🏼 💖💜🥁🐉🎤💕💞

Some Poles treat Ukrainians worse because of our combined difficult history. I will not write details here because I will be blocked in a moment, but if you want to know something or more, read about the Massacre of Wołyń carried out by the Ukrainians. Such horrible things it's hard to read.
@blinski12 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it is small portion of people who are serious about hating Ukrainians because of Wołyń, UPA, and that kind of things, just like it is very small percentage of Poles who hate Germans because of Hitler. Most of the time it's just small things that might be considered as racism by others (like stories how uncultured some Ukrainians are, or how bad they smell in public transportation after the weekend, or how they can't serve customers well as employees), but it's just usual Polish complaining and Poles complain about everything and anyone; and it is often as harsh in language as it is superficial.

Complicated history creates complicated relationship. Poland got mistreated and beat up so much in history, I don’t blame this lady for not really understanding the complexity of this. Poland hasn’t been free until late 80s. All Slavs have a complicated love hate relationship. But you bet your butt they (Poland) will unite with their neighbors in time of need, especially understanding what it’s like to be on the receiving end of senseless bloodshed.

As a person of color, is your love for Poland out of acceptance or is their an African blue print that gives you some feeling of value to the country? I guess I'm always looking for my existence in a country. Especially when Americas systemic infrastructure makes it clear to the people of color that their lives has little or no value in history or the future. And other Eurpean countries also feel the same as america.

Uhh, that's a tough one. First thing you need to know is that US/Western European post-colonial racial relations don't really translate well here. Poland was never a colonial power, never had slavery, and never had much interaction with darker skin at all to speak plainly. Which is the reason behind the first thing that hits every black person in Poland: the stare. Outside of Warsaw, which is quite international, people will look at you, and you will find it rude/unsettling. It takes a bit of time to realise it's not aggresive, racist or anything like that at all, it actually is pure curiosity. Second thing that will hit you: no PC culture. Poles speak their mind, and have no cultural pressure not to do so. So if someone want's to hurt you personally they will not hold back from using the race cart, just to get you rattled. You might also hear things that are insensitive, or even openly racist, quite oftenly without the intent, or even without the person speaking realising how he/she is coming off. As annoying and hurtful as that might be, with some patience and understanding you reach a place where you realise that all of it is coming simply from lack of any interracial experience, the kind that more western countries have planty of. The best way to deal with such statements is to calmly challenge them. You will get recognition for speaking up for yourself (Polish culture isn't very respectful of being "weakminded"/ "easily offended" / anything like that), and the best part - you might actually convince your counterpart, and they might be very happy about being schooled. Something that would never happen in the States, as racist statements come with racist intents there. Other than that I don't think it's much of an issue. All this coming from a whiteman, but I did extensive research on the topic - this comment is a summary of the experience of 20-30 Africans/Afro-Americans who had lived in Poland that I spoke to on the issue of racism in Poland on numerous occasions.

@@sgebert ....Interesting food for thought. Thank you.
@sgebert2 жыл бұрын
@@asadasemwali8365 Sure thing, the topic happens to be important to me. Also I discovered youtube has a lot of videos on it, here's one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/laGUpKSiaM94gdk To summ up: I think it's challenging to be black in Poland, because you're going to be reminded of that a lot. On the other hand none of the issues are even remotely at the level the US is sadly at, and I think Poland has a lot of people like me, who simply don't consider race an issue. Just as weren't brought up being familiar with black people, we weren't familiar with racism as well. So weird curiosity, some insensivity - yeah, a lot of that, american/french/british style racism - not so much, it's just a foreign concept to us. The rules are the same for everyone: learn some history, catch on a few words in Polish, work hard, and you'll be fine. Actually, better than fine, as you will predominantly attract the good kind of attention, especially with the opposite sex. Now I know of course it's not my place to speak as I'm white, but I happen to be a minory, am super sensitive to the issue of discrimation, and like I said I followed up on peoples personal experiences of being black on Poland. I am not claiming that gives me the right to form opinions, or even have them, which is why I am rather trying my best to forward the opinions I got from people who knew what they were talking about firsthand.
