I appreciate Amanda Shires' bravery in sharing the heartbreaking story of her ectopic pregnancy, and I am so happy to hear that she is doing well now. So many women are facing pregnancy complications and are not able to receive the proper healthcare in states that limit or ban abortion care. Kansas took a pragmatic step in allowing their voters to decide this issue, and now abortion care is legal there. I think all states should give their voters the chance to weigh in on this issue. Women should not be forced to carry pregnancies to term when their life is at risk. This is 2023, and women deserve better!

Women should not be forced to carry a fetus in any circumstance if its not what they want 🤔 It should not be a Government issue at all 🤨
@lisalivingston6473 Жыл бұрын
@@robynrains7252 I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, it became a state-by-state issue when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Now we're living in a country where women's rights are threatened in states that have limited or total bans on abortion care. Sadly, women will continue to suffer and die until abortion is made legal in every state.

I am so grateful Amanda is still on this Earth and sharing her story about her ectopic pregnancy, mentioning girls, let alone boys, are not taught about their anatomy and how it functions. Nor are we taught how babies are formed. How fertilized eggs form zygotes then embryos then fetuses. These are not tiny, miniature babies but undifferentiated cells that become body organs. They are Potential human beings. If I step on an acorn I have not cut down an oak tree. If I break an egg we aren't having chicken for dinner. Acorns and eggs have the potential to become trees and chickens. Fetuses have the potential to become a baby. They are NOT the same as the sentiment women whose bodies should be under their own control and trusted to make decisions about their own lives.
@lauraanndekker7396 Жыл бұрын
So well-said! I would also add that there are a lot of other threats to zygoes, embryos, and fetuses besides abortion. They include guns, violence against women, lack of access to health care, being unvaccinated, and pollution/climate change. Needless to say, the "pro-life" hypocrites continue to enable all of those things to continue, which makes you wonder if maybe the real goal is actually to control women.

Amanda is so lucky to be alive! My body went into shock when I had an ectopic pregnancy. I was in so much pain at the time it happened I don’t know how she could have even sat up and talked for as long as she did. I lost so much blood I needed 2 blood transfusions after surgery. 7 days in the hospital and 6 weeks off of work. It took months to get my red blood cell count back up and stay up. If I had known I was pregnant with an ectopic pregnancy I would have took the meds to end it and that’s exactly what my doctors said they would have recommended!

Excellent interview! Thanks for asking about Flagship. My heart hurts when I listen to her sing that line. I was lucky enough to be at The Ryman last October on the night Amanda opened for Jason. He sang Flagship that night which amazed me. I didn't think he would sing it that soon after Amanda's album came out. But, he told the story of recording it - he had sang it several times but not gotten it right. Dave Cobb told Amanda to get in there with him so he would sing it right. He vowed to only sing it when he was with her. The level of honesty, authenticity, and love they share is amazing.

Wow I'd never heard of Amanda Shires before but I'll definitely check her music out now. My knowledge of country is similar in scope to Tim's knowledge of the female reproductive system so it's really nice to hear that someone who shares my worldview still exists in those spaces. Thank you Amanda, for sharing your story, and thank you Tim for being open to hearing it. Republican misinformation and bad faith demonization of abortion is literally killing people in this country right now and there isn't a single day that goes by without more horror stories like Amanda's or about the poverty and struggle and lack of access to basic healthcare for the people who wanted abortions but were denied them.

I love Amanda so much. Her lyric writing is just crazy good. I love arty artists. I've never been in to top 40. I never liked the idea of art of any kind as being "consumed". Amanda never disappoints. She's right there. It's like if Thom Yorke, Leonard Cohen, Erykah Badu and Jim Morrison had some science baby it'd be Amanda. She is always herself. Always "serving the art". She's courageous and kind, she's a real live artist and I love her. Take It LIke a Man is just as good as In Rainbows or Baduizm. She's brilliant.

I first heard about ectopic pregnancies when I was a prosecutor in an in-service training by the county medical examiner. He was showing various autopsy photos, and one was of a woman who had died by ectopic pregnancy. Basically her insides had exploded, and she bled out. As it happens, pregnancy is actually risky to women's health, and, thanks to Republicans, getting more risky by the minute.
