I remember '84 pretty well. People were expected to behave a certain way when on a talk show. In fact, it always seemed like the kids were faced with a higher standard than the adults. If an adult acted goofy, he was "eccentric" and "interesting". If a kid of 15 got too silly, he'd be called immature, unequipped to handle the limelight and not yet ready to be at that level. That being said... Jason Bateman's intellect, insight and composure at that age was pretty damn amazing even for a higher standard. Johnny Carson always seemed to bring out the best in all of his guests with his sincerity and authenticity. He was the epitome of class and talent.
