So glad I got to see Led Zeppelin live in 1978. Yes I’m that old but that concert lives in my memory like it was yesterday. They are the beast of rock ‘n’ roll rollers. So good!

@@Peterickenbacker1 really? I had no idea…being a professional drummer with 35+ years experience and two gold records 🙄 Jason Bonham’s a damn good drummer. By anyone’s standard (except yours, apparently). And he does a good job on the Zep stuff…and did a GREAT job in the LZ02 concert/dvd/album. Funny part is, it took him years to get there-I really didn’t like his younger playing, he was all over the place. But now, as a grown man-he does an exemplary tribute to his father. You don’t agree? Cool. But don’t pull the musician angle, brother…trust me. I know my onions. Cheers! p.s. to be clear: this song may be ‘one of Zep’s easiest’ technically, but it’s a bitch to play with the right feel and pocket. He does so. The whole point of my post.

Jason is a great drummer just like his dad. However, I grew up with Led Zeppelin so for me, while these musicians are really good, there is no substitute for Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones but Jason is just as good and maybe better than his dad John. I will admit that I really liked the rendition of Stairway to Heaven done by Jason, Heart and a choir at the Kennedy Center Honors with Robert, Jimmy and John in the audience along with the Obama's.

I don’t intend this as an argument, but Dad is on a whole ‘nother level from not only Jason, but any other drummer in rock I can think of. It’s not his level of chops that makes me say that, but rather incomparable good taste, and a groove so deep it spawned some of the greatest music in pop history. I’ve worked with Jason with Foreigner. He did a great job and he’s come a long way since. A lovely man to make music with, to have onstage. It must be a bit intimidating to be compared to his Dad all the time, like looking up at Everest, wondering what it must take to get there.
