Plant's ability to make his laryngitis sound good and show his new ax skills along with Young's convulsive shredding of his (truly on par with Hedrix's guitar fire) can't be described and must be seen. Jones' smoother-than-his-own good presence and galvinizing base , Page's hysterical reaction to Plants first three cords and Lee's similarity to an out-of- control Sesame Street muppet on steroids (wished they were able to film him better!) puts this garage band in a league never seen!

The greatness of this is that it shows in its simplicity a few of the things that made Led Zeppelin the best rock band ever. First, Page, Jones and Michael Lee lay down a powerful hypnotic groove, essential to Led Zeppelin. Page, being the consummate band leader, knows that he's got something special in the blues noise realm happening, so he just lays it down and doesn't lead the jam anywhere but where it needs to stay ... in the groove, with Jones embellishing. Plant, iconic front man that he was, sees an opportunity for some joyous madness, and, throwing all caution to the wind, grabs a guitar and goes for it. The result is an expression of exuberance, joy and a love for the stage and the company of his fellow musicians, and some Buffalo Springfield too. All this is made possible by Page, who has allowed Young and Plant plenty of room to be themselves, and the massive rhythm section sound of Jones and Michael Lee , an incredible drummer who, like John Bonham, died far too young for words. This jam was a monumental act of spontaneous skronk and joy!

Incredible I've never seen this video before having been raised on Led Zeppelin since the 70's! Even more Incredible I didn’t even recognize the song having to do a double take at the KZbin title rather than recognition by hearing it given the VERY different sound of Neil Young oddly playing his own highly unigue version apparently on lead guitar with Jimmy Page letting it happen. Even stranger & almost appearing as comedy was Robert Plant throwing on a guitar to make this whole performance even stranger. I know I'm in the minority, but I really love this. Page has no real idea what's going on, but JPJ does; he gets that there's a real connection between Plant and Young. It's why Plant picks up the guitar. To bleed into the noise Neil's creating. He's digging it. Plant's never liked dredging up stuff he'd done before. And this was new, this sound he was making with Neil. He ignores JP. It's all about Neil. That's why he spontaneously brings in the bit of FWIW; he really did feel like something was going on. Look at connection between them at 6:10; it's like Plant is calming a wild animal. Neil's eyes are locked on him, waiting the signal. The drama is just fantastic. To me, the whole things works; including when JPJ cranks the tempo at 6:30, and Neil gurns on that cyclic riff of his. They're clearly having a blast by this point, and it's great to see. So to me, this is real, live collaboration. And I love it.

Agreed, and Plant implements the Buffalo Springfield lyrics into Levee like an unreleased additional verse. So ingeniously performed here , if you weren't familiar with the Buffalo Springfield song, you'd think it was a verse that Plant wrote , then left out at inception of the recording of Levee, but decided to install it this nite with Neil Young. It was a tribute to Neil that'd melt any musician, no matter their success or recognition. I've underestimated Robert Plant at times like many others, but his vocal injury in the 70s was beyond his control. At the end of the day this guy has as much talent to improv and blend-in as anyone else in Zep.

Neil has a history of domination. He apparently can’t help himself. The biography about Neil Young called “Shakey” is worth the read. It cracked me up at the parts where Young went into some zone and just completely trampled other guitarists. The author made it out to be like a personality defect. Lol

I'm a lifelong Zeppelin fan since the 70's & as most comments have said here every aspect of this performance is rough on the ears. This would be the last gasp of Robert Plant's voice trying hard to reach some semblance of high notes which were totally long gone by 2007 with the final Led Zeppelin reunion concert. This is a lesson to all aspiring singers & those early in their careers. Robert Plant was 1 of the greatest Rock singers of all time...but didn’t have professional vocal training & used improper damaging singing technique permanently damaging his vocal cords by late 1972 when he like many singers pushed on thru his concert while very sick rather than postponing the show til he recovered. When singers over push their inflamed vocal cords they often cause hemorrhaging of the blood vessels which then causes bubbles filled with blood on the vocal cords. If U don't immediately do vocal rest for weeks or possibly months directed by an ENT/Vocal specialist...the blood filled bubbles burst permanently scarring the vocal cords. The scar tissue causes hoarseness & loss of range which then can only be treated by surgery with scapel or laser which changes the surface of the vocal cords forever. Once the surface of the vocal cords has been altered they'll never sound the same or be as good again....illustrated perfectly by Adele, Mariah Carey, Elton John to name just a few & of course Robert Plant who only had 4 incredible years before a concert that would lead to decades of painfully declining range, power, & ability. Singers never think it will happen to them...until it does.

Alot of music genre terminalogy, fact is the music business created it all. In reality, there's musicians inspired by each other with the honor to collaborate and improv together. The grunge movement wasn't meant to be dubbed as that by the musicians who fronted it, they were simply turning their craft back to the organic age of hard rock when musicians jammed, used some distortion and layed down a groove like this, without all the annoying computer electronic noises from the 80s. These guys on stage here, whatever someone wants to label them, are grandfathers to just about every hard rock/heavy metal band thereafter.

@@DG-sf9ei I wasn't trying to define whatever "Grunge" is, was, or who was responsible for the name "Grunge. I never liked the term, and only used it to be concise, as Neil has been credited as the father of Grundge. Whether you agree with it or not, or whether it falls into your definition of Organic Collaboration or whatever. Please do not assume to lecture me on this subject as I was there at the beginning, beforethe bands that made up this genre were even signedI was at Evergreen and knew Kurt, saw all the bands when they were still living out of vans. I was there when SubPop was created. I am also a musician. So I don't need a history lesson or an ex[planation who they are, or their relationship to music. It was merely a short observation that I commented, without the need for you to define it to me .

@@stephencastro1437 It's all just rock n roll in the end, because in the grand picture there are far more different types of music contrast from rock to orchestral music for example, than rock to grunge. Rock is grunge and grunge is rock, no need to get offended there little one.
