The greatest COVER band of all time. Most of their early stuff was written and performed by someone else originally, which I think is the definition of "cover band". But they did improve all of those songs massively, Dazed and Confused especially (where in 2012 they finally even gave poor old Jake Holmes some credit for the original, just the 43 years later, having pocketed millions along the way). When the Levee Breaks was originally recorded in the 1920s, and I believe they credited the original artist from the get-go on that occasion ... although by then they were already wealthy, of course, and could afford to pay some royalties to someone else. Again, a fantastic cover version ,vastly superior to the original. A truly awesome cover band.
@arthurpewtey7 жыл бұрын
"Led Zep just did them better than anyone" Agreeed. 100% agreed. That's why I used the word "greatest". They're not just any old cover band. Out of interest, what's your definition of a cover band? The Oxford English Dictionary says it means: "A band whose repertoire consists of versions of songs by other artists rather than original material." Sounds about right to me. Obviously, someone will be the best at "knicking (sic) those old blues songs" (not that Jake Holmes was really a old blues singer, they more robbed a contemporary artist in his case), earming them the title "greatest". I'd love to hear your definition.

I remember listening to it over and over again trying to "learn" the turns that Michael Lee did, and to this day I'm enchanted, that's when I got to know Led Zeppelin's songs and consequently I entered the world of rock for good, despite having heard it many times before.

This is not Zeppelin. The great drummer Bonham is absent forever. No John Bonham. No Led Zeppelin.
@tash613222 күн бұрын
@1994g0 That is not fair to the rest of the band members. Anything they collaborate together, "when two or more gather" as the Bible says.. it is the HEART and SOUL of Led Zeppelin. You want to throw them away because of the effects of alcohol (in John's case) that's on you.
@1994g022 күн бұрын
@@tash6132 I readily admit and acknowledge that John Bonham often behaved like a drunken bum. There`s no doubt that his death was an alcohol induced tragey. I also acknowledge that Plant and Paige were quite talented and were integral parts of the band`s phenomenol success.I greatly respect both men. But Bonham`s drum sound was unique...so thunderous.This was particularly evident on "When The Levee Breaks " and "Gallows Pole". That sound has never been dupicated. I don`t see how a true Led Zeppelin performance can be carried out without John Bonham.

Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy wrote this about the 1927 flood on the Mississippi when the black sharecroppers were stranded on sections of the levee that were like islands after the levee was breached. When someone sent a boat to extract them, a contingent of local officials stopped the rescue and stranded people on the levee for days with no facilities. After the water receded, many of the displaced share-croppers migrated to Chicago et al. That's to what Plant's verse that mentions Chicago refers.
