Was he? Real Madrid signed him for good reason. They knew if they could get him past his injuries he had the ability to be one of the best CB's in the world. But he never did get over those injuries did he.

So yes I stand by my opinion he was underrated, people talk about so many players and no one mentions Woodgate but he was an amazing player

@@Jamiesahuc not saying he wasn't amazing, cos he was - when he was fit and playing reg for Newcastle he was absolutely sublime - He was a Rolls Royce of a CB but with the reliability of an old Alfa Romeo. Just saying back in those days everyone knew how good Woodgate was, eventually he just couldn't catch a break with his injuries and I think after Madrid thats why none of the big boys went in for him. By the time he played for Spurs he was well past his best.

Thierry Henry said Ledley was the hardest CB to play against. Probably cos Ledley had everything. He read the game so well, was very strong, was good with the ball at his feet, was dominant in the air and was pretty quick. For me Ledley was much more comfortable on the ball than Sol but in every other area Sol Campbell in his prime was like King on steroids. Sol was one of the strongest guys to play in PL, totally dominant in the air, 1 vs 1 one of the hardest players to beat. Although he didn't have amazing acceleration once he got to top speed he was very fast and could catch most players.

Sol campbell used to get caught postionally a lot. He was quick, strong and aggresive but, positionally wasnt particularly savvy. Thats why hes not in the same level as adams, ferdinand, terry, etc.

Ledley King was not underrated. As an Arsenal fan, we were always pleased when he didn't play against us. For me Sammy Lee wasn't given any credit playing for a Liverpool team from mid 80s when they were the best team in the world. He was just as important as Barnes and Rush

100 percent a prime fit Ledley King would get ahead of Stones. As good as Stones is he has a massive weakness in his game and that's his lack of mobility. Ledley could do everything Stones can do but had much more pace and he was much stronger too. Even TH14 said Ledley was the best CB he played against in the PL.
