Best writer in the business right now, he’s also a legitimately great bluegrass player. Definitely should check out elephant, selfishly I hope you’ll check out cover me up (live from acl as well) it is his song to his wife Amanda Shires the fiddle player and back up vocalist that was hitting those harmonies, of how she saved him from his drug use the song hits close to home for my significant other and myself.

Would love you to react to more Jason (and the 400 Unit) - you really feel the emotion when he sings and his lyrics hit deep. As you noticed they are very human and he doesn't shy away from life or difficult topics. His wife Amanda (singing with him here) helped him get sober and many of his songs touch on his experiences. I can't pick a favourite - it depends entirely on the day and my mood - but Songs That She Sang In The Shower, Last of My Kind, Cover Me Up, Alabama Pines, Travelling Alone and Live Oak would all be high on the list.

I am a fan of vocalists and of course lyrics. So I don’t say it lightly when I say, Jason Isbell is this generation’s Bob Dylan. Hands down, the best singer songwriter to grace our ears these days. His backstory of addiction and being saved by a wonderful woman, leading to a second chance at life and massive success. His catalog is worth a dive. Check out, “White Man’s World”. Maybe not as in your face as Rage Against The Machine, but one hell of statement from a guy born in Alabama.
