Jason Isbell (in my opinion) is the best songwriter our generation has. The best and deepest love song I've ever heard is "If We Were Vampires." It's about valuing what time we have with each other. The Austin City Limits performance is great, because you can see him looking at his wife sometimes. He has said it took several tries before he could get through it when he first sang it for her. Go down the Jason Isbell rabbit hole; you won't regret it.

Another thing about Jason Isbell -- he walks the walk, too. Another country artist, a more commercially famous one, did a cover of his "Cover Me Up," and then that artist was caught being racist on video. After that, Isbell donated his proceeds from that cover to the Nashville chapter of NAACP, putting his money where his mouth is. That's the kind of integrity I appreciate -- that's being a real artist.

@Real_McPhee3 жыл бұрын
Outstanding reaction! I’m so glad the title didn’t stop you. Jason’s social commentary is strong and wrapped in amazing songwriting. Especially from someone born in 1970s Alabama. As a white man, especially with two young sons, it’s imperative to recognize the starting line is not at the point for everyone. I simply love the lyrics, “there is no such thing as someone else’s war” and “we’re all carrying one great burden, sharing one fate”. Sounds like such a simple concept, yet so easy for many to turn a blind eye to. Again, great upload and reaction! Thank you. Side note: Yes, the FIDDLE😉 you hear is Jason’s wife, Amanda Shires. Amanda is fantastic musician, leading an all female band, The High Women. I am a huge softie when it comes to them on stage. Toward the end of this song you hear her play a riff and he answers back on guitar. Watching them do this live on stage is so powerful. It should also be mentioned, Amanda is the one who helped pull him out of a very serious issue with addiction. He got through it, they own their own record label, and upon sobriety on his first solo album Jason won Americana song of the year with “24 Frames”. Much of Jason’s success would not have happened if not for the woman who never approaches the front of the stage live, provides a high/soft voice to back up his, and has been his rock for many years. The little girl with fire in her eyes when he wrote this song, was his them almost 2 year old daughter (with the fitting first name) Mercy Rose Isbell.

The world today is totally upside down, topsy turvy and most people don't realize it or just don't care. There is a song that totally nails the predicament we're in today. I would really appreciate it if you would do a reaction video to God We Need You Now by Struggle Jennings and Caitlynne Curtis. It speaks 100 percent truth about what's going on in the world today and I think if you were to react to it maybe it would enlighten and hopefully wake some people up. Like you said so wisely, it's not just your problem, it's all of ours. Thanks for doing what you do, its an absolute pleasure watching your videos.

He's talking about privilege, he realizes that he gets advantages that others don't get. He isn't guilty about it entirely, but he knows it isn't right. He wants his daughter to have freedom and opportunity that is denied to his wife. He wants to live in a country that actually lives up to the ideals we express. Everyone being equal with equal opportunities. He says "there's no such thing as someone else's war." Springsteen used to say "remember no one is free until everyone is free." He hopes the world will open up for his daughter and for others that are repressed.
