ngl I really blame the players at this point. They just have to be smarter defensively. Ik it's easy for me to say just watching at home, but I could read most of these defensive scenarios. Having played basketball, it is not that hard to read defensive assignments when ur locked in and bought in. Bunch of mental lapses happen with the mavs too often. And they pay for it in the end

That’s coaching dude. Kidd puts in the worst senseless rotations, and looking like a disorganized mess is coaching, not the players. If they had a bunch of scrubs out there getting smoked we’d blame the players, but they have the talent to do this. Just not the coaching leadership.

By now, I just tune in for one minute every day to hear him rant. I don't even follow the NBA that much anymore. Yet after that minute, I leave with the pleasant feeling of knowing that someone in the world will always have a worse mood than I have. That said, there's a super-easy fix for bad defensive schemes all over the league, a fix so impactful it would produce better Basketball within 3 years, yet so simple that your grandmother could understand it: ALLOW RELEGATIONS!!! You'd be stunned by how fast teams can turn around if they are actually playing for something as opposed to playing for nothing which is what 24 teams in the league do in any given year. And you'd also be in awe of how quickly good coaches can be separated from bad coaches if there actually are the fates of whole organisations on the line every year. I only say as much - with relegations a Rivers would not have gotten two more prime coaching jobs after failing in one prime coaching job. Just as an example. Likewise, former esteemed players would be held to the same standards as everyone else doing the job, as the coaching job would no longer be a reward for a good standing with the organisation - because you'd need the coach to keep you in the league to be able to keep paying bills and employees. Looking at you, Kerr and Kidd.

Absolutely brilliant and hard to argue with your reasoning…but I strain to see how any owners would go along with it. Not saying it would never happen; just trying to imagine what sort of crisis would have to blow up that would lead to it. But the bottom line is that, outside of the handful of good teams, no one is incentivized to give an eff about defense (or playing hard in general)

Well someone has to do it. Kyries only use is scoring and he seems to put up bricks for entire quarters while getting smoked on defense. This whole team is meltdowning like last year but even harder and later in the season. Absolute joke.

@@marcusorr7168 Lukas not perfect. As a fan I can admit I see him dog plays on defense. But it’s probably tiring having to average a 45 point triple double, while Kyrie does nothing if his shots aren’t falling. Luka is tired from having to play offense for Kleber and Hardaway who combine to go 1-10 from the field on a regular basis, with Maxi contributing okay defense and Hardaway none at all.

@@invisobill2125 I understand what you're saying, but at a certain point with Luka you gotta ask is it effort or capability he hasn't improved as a defender since coming into the league and if it doesn't improve, he will start to be called out for it, its not to the point where teams have decided to target him yet, as you do have Kyrie who is definitively a worse defender, but the problem really starts to peak its head when they're both on the floor, its about half of your team that you can switch to and create space or a driving lanez just simply because you can count on one of them being out of position

@@marcusorr7168 I’ll have to disagree with you, Luka has improved his defense quite a bit since joining the league. Check the stats, he’s an excellent post defender. He dogs plays occasionally and gets blown-by by fast guards, like everyone else in the league. You’ll have to research that a bit more. Either way, with all the flopping parts on this team, Lukas defense is far from the main problem.

Fire GM for assembling this Mavs roster. Luka defense 2/10, Kyrie 1/10, getting players who can score but can't defend should have been priority. They should have gotten Pat Beverly, Dillion Brooks, who whacks players when they drove to the basket.
