I was at University with Jason (Media & Performance degree) and he sang in musicals at the Theatre Society that he was also the Director of. People think of him only as a comedian but he is actually an experienced all round performer and writer.

What a voice! My gosh!!! He also has the bonus of sounding more like Phillip Quast's Javert than any other singer I've heard. Wow! I had no idea he had a voice like that!!!!
@xST4RxGIRLx11 жыл бұрын
OMG! He's can't introduce the song as sung "by the copper who chases Alfie Boe" and then sing like that!!! It's just....not possible!!! That. was. incredible.

Yes, i was there too, in the 5th row and he was definitely singing live. In fact, it sounded better live than it does back through my computer! I was mightily impressed.

It's always a surprise when someone you don't associate with singing gets up and does something like this. Okay, it's easy to make fun of someone who's out of his normal 'comfort zone', but personally I think he did a great job on this one - it's not an easy number to perform at the best of times. Bless him, that was a good job.

What a magnificent performance. Jason proves there he sings as well as he cracks jokes. Just that first line has everyone there in awe.

If people think that's good, listen to him sing 'Bring him Home' I was brought to tears.

I loved him before I heard him sing but I would have thrown my knickers on the stage....my fave comedian singing my favourite song from les mis....bloody perfection!!!! *sighs dreamily*
@LordPodlington11 жыл бұрын
I think the fact the entire room was in silence after that first line says a lot about this mans talent. A damn good comedian and an even better vocalist it seems.
That was am...ay...zing as Craig RH would say. Wow, he could give up the day job, that was really brilliant. Loved it. Thanks for loading. XX

@ Coco pops - This is my video, I was there and I filmed it and can confirm that this IS Jason singing and NOT a backing track! The Preston Guild Hall is quite a small venue and no artist could ever get away with a backing track. I was sat in the second row and heard every word from his mouth, not the speakers.
@Yeesha00005 жыл бұрын
squirtyflower I'm not sure why you had to post this, but regardless, thank you for posting this amazing performance ! It is really and truly awe inspiring, can only imagine how it felt to actually be there. .. lucky you to see both those gentlemen perform live and many thanks for sharing the experience with the rest of us!

If you think Jason Manford is better at singing than Alfie Boe, you need a hearing test. He’s good, but not Alfie’s level.

Yeah, Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman are great actors who PLAYED the roles very well, but they had almost no vocal ability at all.

HUmm, Hugh Jackman participated in several live musicals on stage before
@tobiasthefair88206 жыл бұрын
Rachel McQuoid oh Shut up, they were told to sing the way they did, Its not his fault that Javert is a bad written character.
@Ihdc16 жыл бұрын
Sincerely YOUrs Not at that level of difficulty. Valjean is one of if not the most vocally demanding male roles in all of musical theatre. Jackman was way in over his head singing music way to advanced for him. He spoke-sang his way through most of the film. They also lowered the key of “Who am I?” for Jackman because he could’t hit the high B at the end.

@Maerahn11 жыл бұрын
Oh I agree, he's DEFINITELY had training; having that level of control rarely happens naturally. But having done a diploma in Performing Arts myself, I can testify there HAS to be a certain level of natural singing ability to start with before anyone can become 'great' or even just 'good.' I saw fellow students doing the two years of vocal training who literally couldn't carry a tune in a bucket - and, even at the end, STILL couldn't, no matter how hard they tried and desperately wanted to.
