@@worshipartistryThe hardest part is just the initial setup. I use Morningstar's stuff and they have an editor that makes it really easy to program everything. MIDI kinda takes the fun out of the tap dance, but it allows you to focus on other things.

El Cap is probably my favorite pedal of all time. I miss it. I use the Source Audio Collider for all of my delays and reverbs for space and functionality reasons, but the El Cap is the best sounding delay I've ever used and I've had quite a few.

They just came out with a new version. Haven’t had a chance to check it out what the difference is but I’ve seen a bunch of v1s on the used market so might be worth searching out.
@iamkennymartin

@@worshipartistry newer version has MIDI! But with only spring reverb on tap with the El Cap, it doesn't handle what the Collider can. Collider is massive in functionality and way more intuitive IMO than some of the similar pedals (empress echosystem, etc). Collider has Tape too but there is no Tape sound I've found like the El Cap. El Cap + Flint is a great combo. Just don't have the space.

I love everything about this video! You have a really great personality for making youtube videos. In general, you are very agreeable, but when you messed up with the volume pedal thing you just had fun with it. And then the content is so rich. As a helix user I sometimes miss the fun of messing with actual pedals, but the Helix does the job I need it to reliably, predictably, and keeps me from blowing paychecks on G.A.S... It was fun to live vicariously for a moment. You mentioned in another comment that you are looking into a lighter rig for portability, have you considered the tonex pedal? It could capture your AC30 at your desired settings so it may feel more familiar to you than other emulations of it, and it is small. I bet you could hang out with your friends over at Worship Tutorials and try out all their gear and see if you care for any of the modelers on the market. I think they have them all lol. Awesome rig, and great playing!

Thanks so much for your kind comment. I mess up so often I'm very practiced at having fun with it :) I actually have Brian Wahl's original Helix right now. They are pretty amazing and the modeling tech out there is crazy good. If I was starting from scratch today that's definitely where I'd start and using the Helix at church has been really fun.

Hey Jason, love the video! I like the concept of telling us not only the pedals you are using but how you use them. If you are looking for a lighter amp:) you may want to try the Walrus Audio ACS-1. I have it and love it, you can use just one amp (Fender, Marshall or Vox) or blend/ play through two of the amps in stereo.
@worshipartistry
@worshipartistry 2 ай бұрын
That sounds awesome. For the most part my amp stays at my studio now so the weight isn’t as much of an issue but playing lead guitar at church has me looking at a mobile setup. Do you go stereo?

@@worshipartistry I just finished building the board and still yet to use it at church. I do however have a Walrus Audio Stereo Canvas signal isolator/DI box under the board that can sum stereo to mono.

@@worshipartistry The Walrus Audio ACS-1 can run in stereo or mono. It also had a recent firmware update with updates to all the amps, which are a inspired by Fender, Vox and Marshal. It also has impulse responses specially created by Tone Factor.

Loved this insight. Can I ask what keeps you away from the 'easy option', of buying an all in one modeller like the Helix / Quad Cortex, etc? I haven't ran a traditional pedalboard for about 8 years and have owned various HX products. I downsized to a Pod Go a couple of years ago and although it's fine, I don't really tweak anything, and I wish I had a bit more flexibility with effects, etc. I'm at a stage where I'd like to go back up to a bigger unit and pedals are tempting, but it feels like a minefield, and ultimately ends up costing more than a modeller would, for not as many options.
@worshipartistry
@worshipartistry 2 ай бұрын
Couple reasons. I’m very old school in that I like to see everything in front of me and love the tactile aspect of pedals. It’s how I learned and I’ve built up the board for many years. If I were starting now and mainly playing at church, I think I something like the helix or quad cortex makes a ton of sense. They are lightweight, sound great and have a lot of flexibility. Even so, I’d still use them like I use this board, essentially creating a pedalboard rather than a bunch of presets.
@SamGrimes93
@SamGrimes93 2 ай бұрын
@@worshipartistry Thanks! I think that's my problem with modellers, it's difficult to just turn knobs as you end up breaking certain parameters you've programmed to footswitches, etc. It just turns into an exercise of buying pre-made presets and then being too afraid to tweak them. This video has definitely inspired me though. I might meet halfway and try to build something around a Stomp or Stomp XL, and then throw the pedals I really want into the effects loops 👍
@SethDStanley
@SethDStanley 2 ай бұрын
@@SamGrimes93 I'm no guitar extraordinaire, but for what it's worth, I think the HX Stomp + pedalboard is THE absolute perfect middle ground. Incredible amp modeling, plenty of DSP to run stereo amps if you want plus any effects you don't use often enough to purchase their own pedal (chorus, trem, octave, maybe even a really ambient reverb setting) and combine it with those key physical pedals you really love. I just use an HX Stomp XL now because I mostly lead worship vocally and don't have time to tweak knobs and fiddle with larger pedal boards, but if I were a lead electric player, I'd absolutely go back to an HX + pedals.
@worshipartistry
@worshipartistry 2 ай бұрын
That sounds like a great idea. I'd love to do something similar. The Stomp has some great amp models. I'm also thinking about the Universal Audio Ruby and Dream. Might fit the way my brain works better and I think it could be a rad stereo combo.

you're missing a wah. that's a sin in itself. nice board, i keep it simple, but have my amps channel switch mounted permanently on board and my delay at front as i tap in delay every song i decide to use it on. also, i like second row to be elevated, pun intended, so i can use my clumsy size 12 work boot to hit switches without messing up knobs of pedals below. goes - tuner - wah - compressor - clean boost with mid hump option for cutting solo's - modulation - delay. never use reverb as it washes out too much live. amp mesa single rec. this set up does my worship gigs and pub gigs from funk to punk.

Ah…the wah. I had a crybaby on there for years but it broke and I never replaced it. An elevated back row would be nice. It does get a little crowded. Is there a difference in putting the compressor after the wash rather than before?

@@worshipartistry it may be before, can't remember. compressor only for very clean guitar. as you add drive from pre-amp, i find the valves have all the compression i need.
