Sterner bowled great, and then choked the championship away. In the 10th he just needed a 9 count to win. Missed the head pin completely and was lucky to get an 8. A 7 would have lost him the match right there. On the fill ball he was way right and was lucky to carry the 7 pin. Not an awful ball, but not a great shot either. Then on the rolloff, he yanked the ball right through the nose, an awful shot worthy of any league bowler. Prather deserved it more and I'm super happy that he won.

As an Aussie I always support Jason Belmonte (well he's Australian of course) and I admire his performance, but Jason Sterner climbing up the stepladder is phenomenal itself and congrats to Kris Prather for winning the title, hopefully the US Open will be his next major title to complete the Triple Crown.

I think his biggest breaks were against Belmonte. He made the 4-7-9-10 out of the pit and carried a couple lucky strikes to barely win.

I've had the pleasure to meet Jason twice, and had him train/coach me. He's a great guy, and i was really hoping he would have won his 1st major here. He performed excellent, and coming from Seed 4 all to the final and a roll-off is great, but i definatly know he is bummed (to say the least)that he made that 10th frame shot with 8

4 huge splits converted. Wow 😲!!! Bowling on such a high level!!! My fave was the 4-7-9-10. Biggest split I ever converted as a 170 average league bowler. Meant more to me than my 643 career high series.

That 3-7-9-10 conversion by Sterner was a bit lucky though. Not a bad shot, but it was lucky pin action that converted the split. The better shot was Belmo's 3-4-10 conversion. You couldn't have placed the ball better if you walked up to the pins and guided the ball by hand. Just a perfect shot. The 3 and 4 pins are off parallel by just a tiny bit, so nothing less than perfection would have done it.

If you don’t think one frame makes a difference, look at the ending of the title match. Sterner had been bowling so well throughout the day and he seemed poised for the win, but he didnt get what he needed in the 10th frame and it eventually lost him the match in the roll off

My thoughts: It would be more accurate to say that Jason Sterner lost the game instead of saying Kris Prather won it. The game was Sterner's. It was his day (heck, he beat Belmonte), he was playing great, until that one shot in the tenth frame when he left two pins. Kris is one of my favorite players, but he was beat today. No doubt, Sterner wishes he could take that shot over again.

I agree that Sterner lost the title himself, but you can't take away Prather's fantastic game as well, if Prather had the chance to shutout Sterner when he stepped up in the ninth and tenth. If the game was eight frames long, Prather wins, nine frames long Sterner wins, but its ten frames long so we had a roll off.

@@Kmeadows09 I'm not taking anything away from Prather. He is one of my top 2 faves. But in sports, on any given day, the better team or player can lose. Sterner lost the game more than Prather won it. Hey, it is just my opinion. I remember years ago the Edmonton Oilers lost a game when an Oiler player shot the puck into his own net. They lost the game more than the other team winning. Of course, Prather technically won the game, but I think even he would have to admit that Sterner had him dead to rights and took a bad shot, especially considering how well he played to that point. Honestly, I don't think I said anything very controversial for the other guy to leave his snide remark. But that is KZbin and the Internet for you.

@@brigham2250 you are 100% right. That game was Sterner's to win or lose, in his 10th frame. Even Prather knew that, look at his reaction during and after his 10th frame. I'm not trying to take anything away from Prather. He is a fantastic bowler, no doubt about it. It just all boiled down to that 10th frame. Sterner had to get 8/X to tie, and he got exactly that, forcing a roll off.
