@Ironfangzu

It's not close. I went from the Crux Prime to the Proton Physix and was happy with how much stronger it was. (I have a relatively weak hand and I struggle on a lot of oil) Then I drilled a Gem recently and WHOA! I found myself moving far to the left and throwing it far right where my balls had never come back, including the Proton. The Gem came back. It's much stronger than the Proton. Amazingly strong.

None of us can do what Prather can with the ball, but the way he explains how he feels about the ball's motion and what he's doing to find the pocket with it, is really very instructional. of course, it helps if you're Kris Prather so once you find the line, you can casually stick an 8 bagger up for the video.

Nice video Kris ! It was interesting that from the same initial line they were all very similar. But after the move to the RIGHT , the Reality hooked more and the Proton less. And then after the move LEFT, the Gem hooked a bit less than the other 2.
@baTonkaTruck
@baTonkaTruck 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah there’s this counter-intuitive thing with “strong” coverstocks. When he moved right, he finds the dry part of the lane sooner, so the ball starts hooking earlier. The stronger ball will use energy faster, so it uses up most of its energy too soon, the ball slows down because too much friction, and there’s not much rotational energy left to make it hook at the end. The weaker ball won’t read the friction as hard, conserving more rotational energy for the last 30 feet (this is called being more “clean”), and so the weaker ball appears to hook more in that situation.
@TheHouseBowling
@TheHouseBowling 2 жыл бұрын
Gem hooks a lot earlier and the reality is a lot more responsive and stores more energy down lane which is why it looked better from left!

Great demonstration Kris. Nearly impossible to tell the difference between the Proton Physics and Global Reality at the same lines. The Gem held up well but I wouldn't say the strongest, possibly the weak pin location made it hook slightly less. I'm glad to see Prather making some videos. My favorite bowler! release is a work of art. With having slower speed it takes a lot of extra work to get the ball to do what he wants on PBA patterns. Yet still makes nearly every show. There seems to be some distain towards Prather for some reason. I think he emits a ton of confidence, that people mistake for arrogance. There is not a pro athlete on the planet that doesn't have extremely high confidence. They wouldn't be where they are without having the utmost confidence in their game. Keep doing the damn thing Prather. P.s. I believe I purchased a ball off eBay from one of your family members.😂 She was clear to say it wasn't yours so you don't get in trouble. Lol

When you said you were gonna bring up the surface, I assume this is hitting it with a higher grit, like 3000. The ball comes out of the box at 2000. I was gonna get one of these but I'm deciding against it. I worry the ball might be too strong for me. Interested to know if you ever followed through with that ball by upping the surface and if there's any conclusion. I'm starting to see this show up at the house but mostly the ladies are throwing it. I can barely keep my Phaze 2 tame enough on the house pattern, so maybe its a bit too strong for my game. I'm a lefty and usually play an outside line, I just worry the Gem will read too early. I'm trying to develop a better inside game, that's what made me think about this ball. Anyway, I'd be interested in a follow up on this ball. Perhaps the upcoming hybrid version of this ball may be a better fit. Supposed to come out of the box at 4000.

Everything Prather said about the Gem is true: you can use it on house shots, sports shots, really any oil pattern and it would look good. Here's what he didn't tell you: PRATHER can throw any ball, in any condition, and make the ball looks great. He has fantastic control of ball speed, can increase or decrease the rotation on the ball at will, and once he finds the right shot, he can repeat it shot after shot like some sort of perfectly programmed robot. This man just won his second major and it's easy to see why. Name the five best bowlers in the world right now. You'd be crazy if Prather isn't in your top 5.

Going off what I'm seeing from Kris, I can definitely see a need to carry both the Gem and the Reality. If you need it to rev up earlier use the Gem, if it starts using too much energy to make the turn but you still need a lot of ball the Reality is the one. As far as the colors go I remember the old Core LRG from the 2000's which was a bright yellow and blue. I do kind of like color combos like this as it makes it easy for me to see what the ball is doing, and it's never really strained my eyes. Over all I loved this video and Kris' feed back after each shot and what he looks for and likes to see on the lane. Hope to see some more of these!

hey fellow illinois boy ( no disrespect intended )got a question do you ever weight the ball after your done drilling them. I noticed the one in this video weighed in a 15 lbs 3 ounces. what is it after drilling

Usual about 3oz gets taken out but it’s almost impossible to feel the difference from 15lbs 3oz or 15lb 1oz

@@TheHouseBowling you mean between 15.3 and 15 and it's been my experience that when drilling a ball that has grips in it it will take out about 4-5 ounces which then makes it a 14 pound ball. and then it confirms why thoughts about why there's so many one pin leaves out there. it's because a 14 pound ball does not carry as well as a 16 pound ball. even a 15 pound ball will not carry as well as a 16 pound ball

@@thomastaylor6511 What? A ball being 14 lb. 15 oz. doesn't really make it a 14 lb. ball. LOOOOL. Using your logic, 16 lb balls don't exist, since after drilling they will be slightly under 16. So why are you comparing anything to 16 pounds, you know....since according to you they don't even exist. You're using very convoluted logic and it doesn't make any sense. In other words, you're calling a 14 lb 15 oz ball a 14 pounder, yet you're calling a ball that is 15 lb 15 oz a 16 pounder even though they are both only 1 pound apart. You're confusing yourself.

@@BornIn1500 16 lb balls do exist and still weigh 16 lbs after being drilled. every 16 pound ball I owned weighed in At 16.4-16.5 before drilling and I didn't use grips because they never stayed in the ball they always came out with one or both of my fingers.

@@thomastaylor6511 My point is that claiming a 14 lb. 15 oz. ball is only 14 pounds, and then trying to claim it's 2 pounds lighter than a 16 pounder, is completely ridiculous.
