This is part 1 of my full build of the Airfix 1/48 P40 B, AVG, Flying Tigers. A great kit and I tackle this one straight from the box adding some details here and there.

I built this kit in late 2018, and I was amazed at how nice it fitted. Decals were excellent too!

Built up this kit earlier last year, I was definitely impressed with how well the kit went together and I’m super happy with how it turned out!

A very simple but detailed content, I like how you went on step by step and giving tips and tricks on building the kit. I am also working on a 1/48 P-40C, but from the Academy kits (AVG Flying Tigers too of course) and your contents did really help alot as I go along. Hoping to get the Airfix one in the near future too. Thanks for the tips !

I see you forgot to put the tiny inspection sight glasses in the fuse above the wings like I did - the instructions could have a little “look here” arrow or something.... 😁 great job - I’m following you from here on as I build this....

That is a good way on how to fill in the gaps on the spinner, just remove the blades and treat it like a subassembly. It makes it so much easier to paint both the spinner and the prop blades. Good build so far.

Very good! I've wanted to build a P40 but didn't even consider the Airfix one 'cos I thought it would be crap - you've changed my mind Jason, thx :)

Those two cables behind the seat could be part of the height adjusting mechanism. During start and landing, the pilot would open the canopy and raise the seat, for better view. And the P-40 had plenty of seat- and parachure straps !! Look at Kermit Weeks' P-40 : kzbin.info/www/bejne/omnInoiPed6ihZo And if you want a truly accurate propeller, you must place the blades a bit further back, towards the airplane. Airfix put them a bit too much forward. On your model, they must go back about 1 mm !

Kermit weeks has a late war TP-40N,this models an early production p-40. The avg planes were earmarked for raf and were aquisitioned for avg service, and based on historical accounts only had lap belts for the seat itself. (Kermit leaves the chute in the plane-war time pilots wore there chutes before getting to the plane). Also the avg planes came without radios, so the group bought civil radios from piper cubs and installed those, so just a single radio wire instead of the normal 3 is correct for an avg plane.

The part behind the seat that you thought wasn't a fuel is the internal fuel tank. scale-model-aircraft.com/wp-content/uploads/Curtiss-P-40-Warhawk-Cutaway-Drawing.jpg

I am very close to throwing this thing in the garbage can. Overly-engineered and poor fit.
