I called this out in the video, but want to do it here too. Check out The Car Care Nut channel for other really helpful Toyota videos. I've watched is videos for over a year, but recently binged several. His Toyota car/truck technical knowledge is second to none. He makes guys like me less afraid to try this stuff too. www.youtube.com/@TheCarCareNut

wow that is some serious work but that's what it takes to make things factory level finished. great job Jason! and i learned about hog rings for the first time!

Yeah, it was my first time messing with that as well. Not easy but doable. I see why upholstery work isn't cheap. This was one of those jobs I was nervous to try (had the parts for over a year)... but in the end it went very well and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Great instructions! Unfortunately, after studying your vid in preparation for the install I discovered Rostra updated their design and though my product has the same model number as yours it is very different. Differently colored wires, smaller inline fuse, but regardless you've earned my sub and a like.

That was pretty awesome! First time seeing someone do this mod themselves!

Picked this kit up for my 2010 SR5 this morning, I’m very intimidated to install it myself 😅 I haven’t gotten into anything like this before

I’d say watch my video and the car care nut one as well and you should be fine.

Even though I already have heated seats in my 4Runner, I appreciate the detail you put in your videos! Looks great!

Cant wait you install Sarge heated seat:)
@JasonExplainsThings Жыл бұрын
Yeah we’ll see. The Tacoma doesn’t have the same switch blanks for heated seats so it wouldn’t be so easy. The seat/upholstery portion would be the same.

Jason great vid, love the attention to details and clarifying where one might get confused or stuck. Now if you could do memory seats that would be awesome. Any chance of that?
@JasonExplainsThings Жыл бұрын
Many thanks! I likely won't be doing any more modifications to the 4Runner seats. But lots of other 4Runner projects are in the works.

If you folks are just watching this for fun... I'm curious if you enjoyed or tuned out for the middle section. I usually like to move through things quickly, but felt that if anyone was watching this as they did the same thing that it needed to be slower and show more detail. Luckily Chris and I told dumb jokes throughout. Either way I hope you enjoyed it!

I admit I used the faster playback speed as I don't have a 4Runner but wanted to see the overall process.

@BowTied69 No offense at all! Hopefully you caught the veterinarian joke. 🐴

In theory could you put these between seat covers and the original cloth seat?
@JasonExplainsThings6 ай бұрын
No. But if you want to do something like that there are companies that make seat covers with warmers built in.
@slyslug88 Жыл бұрын
can you do a similar video for your Tacoma!? if it doesn't already have heated seats..the videos that exists on youtube aren't as high quality as yours.
@JasonExplainsThings Жыл бұрын
It doesn't have heated seats. Same kit could work. Issue is the buttons. The stock heated seat buttons are part of the climate control panel... and that panel is hard to come by (and it's expensive) and wiring would be a challenge. I could add little circular toggle buttons. The 4Runner is just easier to make look perfect. :-)

Extra points for using the word "malarkey" not once but twice in this video. Is there a reason you didn't seek out OEM switches?
@JasonExplainsThings Жыл бұрын
Interesting idea. I didn’t even think to search for OEM switches. 😬 Because of your comment I just did. Looks like it’s $80-$100 per switch. and I’d likely need to modify the wiring harness that plugs into each one. Good idea but I don’t think it matters that much. They look almost identical.
