CROSS INLAY WALKING STICK

Welcome to another walking stick build! This carved walking stick is made out of BUTTERNUT with a pine Cross inlay for contrast. This stick was for a friend who has a strong connection to his faith and I wanted to have a stick represent that connection.

Nice to see all hand tools here. Great results. My wife encourages me to create elaborate patterns but I think the stick often stands on its own merit. On finishes? I have been using stain or danish oil topped with 2 coats of hand rubbed semigloss lacquer. I was wondering if you had an opinion on my method. Anyway great job.

@@Austinite333 thanks for watching. As for the finish, I usually put either danish oil or teak oil as a base, then I’ve topped it off with a wax finish or polyurethane. Your methods follow mine … I like how the oils bring out the grain of the wood, and a top coat adds a bit of protection. I’ve been wanting to try Tung oil, that’s a test to come soon

He did a fabulous job. I'm sure he uses hand tools because he enjoys using hand tools. You're welcome to make your own projects in whatever way makes you happy

@@sethgreenwood6488 absolutely, hand tools get the job done and it’s quite rewarding. A lot quieter than power tools as well!
