I have met a ton of magicians over the years and seen a ton of tricks and shows and whatnot, from audience, tech and backstage perspectives. I would consider myself having some insight knowledge in the business trade of magicians. And what I can say is that, even though this guy is great at producing coins, his coin vanishes are out of this world. They are just the most impressive moves I have ever seen - by far! Such a great routine and, for sure, an inspiration for others to follow. Well done sir!

To exaggerate: If a magician puts his hands behind his back and places a coin in one hand, then brings his hands forward and asks "where is the coin?" it's a 50:50 chance. If Pen & Teller know the technique they cant be fooled for loosing sight of where the coin is, surly?

Agree. According with what Penn is saying, that would mean they didn't fool David Copperfield.

And that is part of the reason the Samari of Magic managed to fool then with a Coin Matrix routine, because P&T lost track of things about 3/4 of the way through.
@stevewebber7074 жыл бұрын
I have always had some issues with the criteria for winning on fool us. It leans toward mind games and red herrings rather than skill and quality of the magic. And there is some subjective room on how well they understand what happened. For one example, if a trick is executed that has 3 possible methods, it could fall to guesswork to determine the method chosen. It boils down to a competition between Penn and Teller and the guests. The qualities, and showmanship of the magic, can be tertiary to winning that competition. Of course professional magicians are going to be wanting to put on a good show anyway. Now that I think about it, I'm wondering what the technical definition they use on what is a magic trick.
@DL-kc8fc4 жыл бұрын
@@stevewebber707 Many of us do not recognize coins as magic, but as juggling. Penn probably belongs to our group, so he doesn't care which of the three techniques was used and won't pass the trophy. However, where magic is applied, Penn has to determine which technique it is. In this case, the trophy is handed over for a bad estimate of the technique, even though the principle is well known. In essence, magic competes for whether or not Penn believes a fake switch.

I was quite surprised to hear him say he was using his hands only, and nothing else. The "black hole", whatever kind of material or fabric it was, could have been gimmicked as well. And maybe it should be, in order for Bertini to have a better chance at cathcing the duo off guard. Having both a gimmicked "hole" which could serve as a "purse" AND those talented fingers could embellish his plot better... Bertini reminded me of another Italian magician who was once on the show - he had had a concrete language barrier as well, and it seemed like he did not really catch the spirit of the show, because he had walked away in kinda bitter, loser mode when it was told to him that the duo was not fooled... Well, at least Bertini seems to understand that the show is not only and only about "fooling", that the compliments and the recognition count as well... But still, I got the feeling that, if he was an English-speaking magician, he'd definitely have enjoyed better the previous episodes, caught up with the true spirit of Fool Us, hence, he could have added multiple other layers to his performance, which would earn him a trophy... Yes, it was "brave" to have P&T right by his side, but, was it really "necessary" or "clever" to do so? Less talented people walked away with compliments AND the trophy thanks only to having created better strategies, with plots conjured specifically for the show. Something in me says Bertini needs a smart agent more than anything else.
