Jason, during the procedure you looked like you were going to either vomit or cry. It looked incredibly painful. Your ears are supposed to clean itself out. You shouldn't have to clean them. In fact, it's the use of q-tips that causes build up, since it pushes the wax into the walls of the ear canal and sticks it there.

CAUTIONARY STORY OF WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER GET THIS OR THESE TYPES OF SERVICES DONE. I've lived in NY my entire life. I'd heard about this type of ear cleaning & there was a salon in walking distance. So because I could barely hear from wax build up & my ENT couldn't see me for 2 weeks, I went to the salon because I was inpatient. The left ear went ok. There were def moments of some pain, but nothing to cry about. My right ear was a different story. It was very painful, I had to keep taking breaks. The lady got enough out where I could hear a little out of that ear. I told her I was ok to stop at that point. She tells me, no, no, no there's more, just 2 more mins. Not even 30 seconds later I had the sharpest pain I've ever had in my ear and I feel fluid running out. She poked my ear drum, it wasn't fluid, it was blood running out. I had to go to the ER. I explained everything & the doc looked at me, shaking his head in a no position. He said if you only knew how many ear drum perforations & ear infections from ppl that started with I went to get my ears cleaned by an ear digger in a salon, you would be horrified. There's a reason ENT's & even primary care docs go to school so long & all you need to work at a salon is a certificate. I caution ppl to stay away from these salons. They don't even have the right instruments to see down into the ear. None of that dawned on me until I was crying in agony on that ER bed. The hospital gave me antibiotics & a steroid to help w the inflammation as well as a pain killer. When I seen my ENT 2 weeks later, the hole in my drum was still there & I had to have surgery so they could graph my ear drum closed. One of the WORST THINGS I EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH. Not only did this happen to me, but according to the ER doc & my ENT many, many ppl suffer from pain ful bacterial ear infections & they see their share of drum perforations. So plz see a doc, even if you have to wait 2 weeks. Best wishes to everyone

I have frequented such "ear digging" whenever I visit my hometown in Malaysia and can tell your viewers that is is not something for the fainthearted; I winced each time she went deep into your ears. I've had it done. If you have a baby that has ear infections often consider getting the ears candle. I know of a baby who cried alot, especially after eating. She was breast feed. Nothing helped. Until they let someone candle her ears. You would not believe what came out of the baby ears. She went to sleep during the 2nd ear and slept for hours. She normally would wake up after 2 hours screaming. They took the candles to the doctor and the poor baby had fluid in both ears that was from the woub. The doctor wanted it done again in a week to make sure all the fluid was gone. It was. It made a difference in this baby.

The technique of ear cleaning is very interesting. It might feel satisfying. But there are some things to keep in mind. I think trying it if your ears feel clogged or something is ok. As long as the person knows what they are doing. It is recommended to have wax removal done if the wax is causing an issue. Not leisurely. The wax is there to lubricant and to help fight bacteria.
