I like the 2nd option on editing the overlaps (Pathfinder>Divide>Ungroup).

If you make your lines go really long it becomes extremely easy to select and delete. You just have to embrace with the ugly phase :)

Hi Jason, all my strokes disappear when i click divide, what am i doing wrong please?
@JasonSecrest5 ай бұрын
I would double check that you are not trying to click Divide on "Live" Brushes. Step #1: Duplicate your "Live" Brushes Layer. Lock out and Hide "Live" Layer. Step #2: Click Object - Expand (Expand Appearance) the New Brushes Layer. Step #3: I would recommend using the Shape Builder Tool (Holding Alt/Option) as the method to Delete. Hi jason, i accidently discovered your channel today trying to find an answer from weeks now about a brazilian dude whos artwork i love & admire. Now, let me tell you what i was looking for after watching his speedart videos where one can barely make out whats happening, what he does is he just places the paper sketch and starts drawing strokes with a blob or a normal brush, now i dont understand after the inking is done how does he manages to still fill some parts so quickly which are not enclosed as a shape? if you may want i would like to personally mail you his videos and learn from you incase you dont mind this small favour i am asking. i really want to know and learn and gear up my artwork as i want to start a studio soon.. :) Please if you may!! 🙏

Blob Brush + Shape Builder or Live Paint. Both live paint and shape builder has a gap option to fill in loose lines to color. Hippo using Blob Brush; kzbin.info/www/bejne/enalemWcmKmaidk

Hey Dusty let's see if we can solve some of your issues. 1st Question: in most of the time as people are learning the program and tools I strip away things that can be frustrating. Adding brushes colors, pen curves, and fills will make you go a little bonkers. If you break it down into steps you can focus just on the task at hand and the tool you are practicing. As you get more comfortable with the tools and procedures than by all means. 2nd Questions: Where are you in the steps when you try coloring your illustrations? Are you following the tutorials or are you doing something a little different? A little more info on where you are and what tools you are using will give me some idea of what the hangups are.

When I click on the Selection Tool, I don't get the red lines like you do...
@JasonSecrest5 жыл бұрын
When I hover and you see the red lines that is a smart guide. Under view turn on smart guides. Under your preferences - smart guides turn on object highlighting. (if that isn't what you are referring to please explain a little more) If the color is off it could just be the layer color is different.

Alrighty... I have a question!: Throughout this video, I see lots of red boxes -- at 5:48, for example. Originally, I THOUGHT they were selection boxes, but now I'm not so sure. Two reasons: 1) In my Illustrator CC (latest version), a selection box is made up of BLUE lines with little squares in the corners, whereas 2) your RED-lined box has what looks like circles in the corners. (Hard to tell.) So, are these red boxes the same kind of selection that I have? or are they modified somehow? I looked in Preferences, but couldn't see where the user might alter the appearance of a selection in just that way. So, bottom line: If that IS a selection box, why does it look different from what I see in my copy of Illustrator?
@JasonSecrest5 жыл бұрын
So the boxes themselves are controlled under view - show/hide bound boxes. The color you see will be the layer color. So you should see blue if that is what layer you are on and blue is the color for that layer

How do I change the colour of the cartoon brushes?
@JasonSecrest5 жыл бұрын
Use tinted brush library to change colors while still in stroke form. We will change the color in the tutorial after expanding and editing
