Thanks Jason, as a 59 year old that is finally learning the guitar, your lesson was easy to understand and motivates me to keep learning. Great lesson.

Very helpful. I was having a hard time with bar chords. While watching, I realized my fretting elbow wasn’t tucked I close enough to my body to get the best leverage. It was an immediate improvement when I did.

Awesome video Jason. Love the tips around exploring beyond just the traditional bar chord. I'm learning some theory and think you had some Sus chords in there. I've watched your other video on expanding them for solos, also very helpful. I don't play them often enough, but one thing that helped me was understanding that you're basically just playing an E, Em, A or Am chord and your index finger becomes the nut. I used to practice E and A using the bar chord fingering and once comfortable with that, started to move up the neck. Bar chords also helped me with trying to learn Nothing Else Matters. Keep it music 🤘🤘🤘

Great vid as ever! Like the idea of using it as a songwriter's tool. Maybe "Keep It Mellow" when you get the acoustic guitar out. I'm learning some Ozzy stuff at the moment but it's inspired me to get the epiphone acoustic out this weekend.

Bar chords are the hardest for me to do Jason when it involves a whole finger to use but I'll work on that. It is important to know how to play bar chords 👍🆒

They can be tough especially on acoustic. I’m actually going to be switching to lighter strings on my Martin (12s to 10s)

Only real problem I have is keeping that G-string down in E shape chords For example I got this intro that includes an F#mb6 and 2 F#m chords and keeping that G string down is the big struggle with all this Sus2 chords in the A shape are also quite hard, but easier for some reason What do I do about that?

Two of those chords are basically the same as power chords, just a one string longer stroke, or am I wrong? I wonder why this similarity was never addressed?

@@jasonstallworth I meant - in this video. I was expecting "Let's compare it with power chords we already know..." or smth, but it never came. As I am a beginner, for me it felt natural that new thing could be explained by similar things we already know. So at the end I was left wondering if the difference is such substantial that the similarity was avoided on purpose. btw, this is by no means a criticism of content, I simply explained my curiosity.

@@artursruseckis4242 that’s great feedback. Typically starting out, you’d learn bar chords before power chords

@@jasonstallworth If one is learning guitar properly, according to all standard programs, then yes. But not if they pick up guitar as a hobby and spend first months just trying all those cool riffs we all know and love. Few days of doing 0-3-5 and seven nation army and after a week or so one is already rocking all the power chords doing nirvanas, offsprings etc. Only after few months comes the thought "ok, now it is time to start learning properly. chords? how you do those?" I mean, I can't be the only one who fist learned to play (simplified, but still with all the slides and bends) For The Love of God before even trying my first chord? And stressing out about inability to get the proper speed for Master of Puppets before even being able to put the fingers correctly for the D chord :D

My bar chords sound out of tune, because the note i play with the ring finger sounds out of tune as soon as i lift the finger to move to another chord. No matter if i play majors on the E string or minors on the A string. This is due to the finger sitting more in the middle of two frets while the pinky can sit more or less directly on a fret. Funny thing is that i hear this "out of tune" more coming from the string itself but not so much anymore from what comes out of the amplifier. But it annoys me. :/
@jasonstallworth
@jasonstallworth Жыл бұрын
You may want to try lighter gauge strings if you’re playing a lot of bar chords. And also make sure you’re action is low. This makes it a little easier. I should have mentioned this in the video.

@@jasonstallworth I just wanted to let you know that this actually worked. I bought me some super light gauge strings and now the barre chords sound so much better without that annoying out of tune tone. It also helps with regular playing when you don't hit the note right on the spot. Thank you very much for this advice.
