Used to travel with 7 lenses 2 camera bodies, gimbal drone... Now the most I pack is 1 camera 2-3 lenses and a small drone.

Just got back for Hawaii. Packed my a7iv, my f1.2 50mm, and my 2.4 28-70zoom. I also packed my DJI air 2s in my pack and I felt like that was quite manageable?

Those are cool. Compactness is so underrated. Especially with AI denoise in lightroom for certain shots, you really can go far with smaller sensors

I used to carry 4 lenses and a full-frame camera, but I was planning to buy another lens at that time. Eventually, it felt too late, and hauling all that heavy gear became exhausting. In the end, I sold everything and switched to the A6700 with just 2 lenses-one for low light and the other a zoom for daytime. Done haha

Essentially haha I’ll still have stuff but I’ve been moving most of my gear to Leica because after travelling overseas and stuff. I found that them having stuff in a smaller form factor, like the M-Series stuff and the Q’s is the best but then just having the SL or a Canon R5 on the side for faster paced work.

I hiked up mountains in my 20s with a Mamiya RB67 and heavy, metal Gitzo tripod. Now the bag is bit smaller and lighter but I have a lot more glass and a smaller camera in my bag along with a carbon tripod now.

this is relateable. For me what did it was getting off social media and not sharing things online for strangers. This narrowed my photography focus on my vacation to environmental portraits and some detail shots of the people I’m with and things I see directly in front of me. My thinking is “1,000,000 people probably already took a cool picture of this far away vista, it’s not unique” but me standing in front of it, is, cause there’s only one me 😂 This means no long telephoto lenses, no drones, etc. at this point I’m down to my A7IV with the 20-40 and a DJI action 4 for any outdoor activities I do like motorcycling, diving, etc.

I've done this. Packed way too much and then worried about it all trip. Did another trip where I just brough my phone and fully enjoyed my vacation. For me a "photo trip" is different than a "regular trip". I will 100% over pack when I am traveling mainly for photos and relaxing is secondary.

This is my college photography teacher right now, he had a decent sized collection of cameras and accessories but decided to sell them all and get a small point and shoot camera he can easily slot into his pocket.
