I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess these opals are Ethiopian and not Australian black opal. Ethiopian opal is "Hydrophilic" which means there are tiny tubes that liquid can enter and the color will disappear due to the lack of refraction. Once it dries out (several weeks) the color will return. Australian opal (black opal) is solid and can handle getting wet. I'm a rock guy and love opal, it's kind of my thing. Hope this helps.

This is an excellent and detailed video and truly taught me a lot. I own your book and I also have watched many of your KZbin videos over the years. This Christmas and into January I just have completed my supplies needed to electroform, and are at the point of beginning to create some of the items to electroform. This and your protection videos were so helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us beginners on this journey.

Thank you so much!! I got natural opal to electroform earrings or something for my mom and I had no idea they were more sensitive than any other stone. You saved me from a lot of heartache!

What UV lamp is that that you are using that can be set for 30 mins? I have been looking and looking for a UV light with no timer and all i can find are gel nail curing lights that have a max of 90 secs and I’m starting to get annoyed.

I'd like to continue the layering and add a nickel plate on the copper, and maybe a gold on top of that. Maybe an idea for you, if you aren't already headed that direction. 😊 I found you a couple years ago, and your brilliance on the DIY stage for chemistry astounded me.... Wish me luck! 🤞🤞🤞

Thank you so much for all of your informative videos! I just ordered your book and am thinking of taking your course. Can you please recommend a good power supply machine or what to look for when purchasing one? I see several options from tekpower on amazon but they range in price. I would like to get one that will grow with me. I’ll initially be using it for rings and pendants. Thank you again!

I always enjoy looking at your work. I am new to electroforming jewelry! I've never done opal because it's so difficult, but your video was very helpful. Thank you very much. By the way, did you also make the base for this ring? If so, it is very nice and I would like to try if I can make it! Electroforming jewelry is still almost unknown in Japan, so your videos are really helpful!

Would softer stones be finished with a sealant coating after electroforming? I'd be worried that the softer Stones would become scarred with wear.

so if opals are not effected by acetone couldn't you just cover the entire stone in superglue then dissolve the glue off with acetone after electroforming?

Mix a teaspon of food grade potasium chloride to 300ml water. Add 1 drop per liter to solution. Hopefully your country allows you potasium?

you looked at it, showed us, and still, say Modge Podge! it is Mod, like, the Mod Squad. Like, from the sixties. “Mod” Podge. I am concerned about you using so many chemicals, and so often having bare hands. nice video. Thanks for all the info. Do you find it is men who go for the larger, chunkier rings more? Those rings are big!
