Thanks! Yes, for multiple people, I would always recommend putting each person in their own track. In addition, sometimes you need to put each person from different scenes or different microphones in their own track as well. The reason for this is because note to actors or microphone sound the same so they will likely need slightly different editing.

Are Loudness settings the same as audio levels? I ask because another channel states that at the beginning of every project for, You Tube publication, one should set the 'Target Loudness levels' by opening 'Project settings/Fairlight/Target loudness levels' & set it to -14 LUFS. Guess I should watch all the way thru before commenting.

Loudness levels are different than audio levels. However, what you said about setting the levels is correct. That is where you set the level at which the overall loudness (in LUFS) will be measured. Check out my video about loudness if you haven’t seen it yet. I break down what it is and how to check it. In this video I talk about individual levels for each channel. Loudness is an overall measure of the entire sound for a project vs levels of an individual track.

Do you have any tips or videos on Audacity? That's the recording program I use and I clean up then export to resolve. I'd really like to know how to improve there. Or should I take the un-touched audio from audacity, export it as an MP3 to DaVinci and then clean it up there?

Hi! I haven't used Audacity much and I don't have any videos on it. I'd say just bring the audio into Resolve and you can probably do everything you need right in Resolve. I've got lots of audio videos in Resolve to help you make your audio sound great. But the same concepts can be applied to Audacity. 😜

What are the basic recommended levels for all audio types: Vocal -10 to -15, Background Music with vocals: , Music no vocals, etc?

For vocals I aim for around -8db to -10db. Background music I aim for -25db to -30db depending on the music. Sometimes it can be a little louder. Regular music I aim for -10db or so. SFX can be a around the same or a little louder than vocals depending on the effects. Once I have general levels, I try to blend it all together nicely. At the very end I check my loudness levels to get an overall LUFS level that meets KZbin standards. Hope this helps, best of luck! Oh I’ve got videos on all kids of audio stuff if you need help. 😜👍

They should just remove the lufs meter or set everything to 0. I don't know why they start you off at -23? Also the yellow and red on the meter don't seem to represent any thing. I know I'm missing something but I cant even find how the audio actually works in Resolve?

The LUFS are all tied into industry standards, thats why they seem a little strange. You can change the scale to absolute instead of relative and it will show '0' instead of '-23' The yellow range is where you want to try and keep the vocals. I set mine around -10db to -8db for KZbin. Red is loud and will get to peaking if you're not careful. You might want to use this for effects sometimes or really loud things in a scene. Green is good for background music, etc. I set that around -25db to -30db.

I'd check with the place you are submitting the film to, but track levels should aways be the same as I mention in this video. You'd change the overall loudness based on the deliverable you need.

Hi, I'm using a mono audio clip on a mono audio track in davinci resolve, even if I panned completely to the left, audio is coming out from both left and right, I played the same clip in vlc media player, I could hear it is coming from left, but in davinci it's coming out of both left and right, all other effects are working just fine, just panning isn't working, I tried panning to the left in premiere, it's working fine, but when I export from premiere and bring the file to davinci, still audio is coming out from both channels... I'm using sennheiser headphones...please tell me what to do, thank you...

Hi! Your pan is not working because you’re using a mono track. You need to change the track tape to a stereo track in order to pan it. Right click on the track below where the name of the track is on the left. Then you can change the track type to a stereo track.

Hi! I've heard that Bluetooth headphones aren't working with DaVinci Resolve, but I don't know why. I've also heard that ASIO Drivers on Windows don't work with Resolve. That could be one fo the problems. Or you can also try going into Preferences, System at the top, then Audio and Video I/O on the left, then speaker setup, on the right. Change the setup to Manual and that might do it.

Very good tutorial. Looking forward the the rest in this series. I do have a question I hope you can answer. What is the key difference between Sample Peak and True Peak settings. Why do you usually use the True Peak over the Sample Peak? And when would you use the Sample Peak. I recall seeing a tutorial ( cannot remember if it was you or someone else) where they recommended normalizing all tracks individually to be -9.2 dbFS. How does that recommendation compare to yours of using TP and going between -10 to -15 on the meters.

Thanks for checking out the video! So I kind of go back and forth between the two. It's just two different ways that Resolve analyzes an audio signal based on it's perceived loudness. You can try either one, but I aways find that I need to make adjustments either way. I usually try one of them, normalize, then watch my meters and make further adjustments. For me, I typically normalized (using either setting) to -8.0 db. I try to get my audio in that -10 to -15 range and work from there. At the end, I will take a look at the overall loudness of a video project and make overall adjustments then. I do this because for example for KZbin, the overall 'loudness' can be higher thanks for other things such as broadcast TV. So I like to set my levels in the proper place, then boost or reduce as necessary. For KZbin, I pretty much always give everything a little boost with the Main Output. Hope this info helps a bit. If I can answer any more questions, feel free to ask!

I know your trying to get that mark and I watched a video the other day who had a guest on. Thought it might help you. I've looked through the numbers of teaching editing software and noticed a pattern. They do really well at times but no so well at other times. Instead of covering 1 or 2 features in DR what if you were to actually create the videos. How to make an intro. How to go through an edit of a 10, 20, minute video. Take a couple of those instructional videos you have and let's make a video using them. Showing the tricks and editing in practice is a great way to help retain the info. I've been looking for a how to make videos for some time. What's the flow of video editing to make it smooth and short as possible. I made a few videos and it took me 2-3 days to edit 1-2 hour of footage into 20-30 minutes. I tried a couple tricks like zooming in a shot. I messed up and ended up with a border I didn't want. Couldn't get rid of it so I left it, hoping no one would catch it. The sound was so low no one watched it. Mine don't turn out so well. This guy Daniel Batal has been doing it and he's contantly growing. Wrong software though. To bad DR doesn't get the press it deserves. They didn’t decrease it by 5.6, if that number is negative it means that’s how far below the allowed level of -14 LUFS. If it was being reduced by KZbin, that number would be a positive number, indicating how much over the allowed level video is. Hi! Sure, you can select the clip, open the inspector, click on the effects tab, and then double click the name of any effect and see all the settings for it. All of the effects on the particular clip should be listed right in the inspector. Hope this helps!

Maybe try jumping into the Fairlight tab and see if they pop up there....You should see them in the inspector if you applied them to the clips. If they are applied to the track, look in the mixer in Fairlight.

I'm ready to scream... I have very low audio AFTER I render files. I've tried everything I can think of... problem started when I started using Davinci Resolve 17.... audio level are fine when editing... it's only the rendered video that has super low sound I even increase the main bus volume and it did not help. Increase volume levels , that did not help... its something to do with the rendering... anyone ??? Please.... I've tried to solve the problem for over 2 hours....

H264. 24 FPS, ACC is the only audio setting, however, I had headphones plugged in ( and that's an entire different problem... can't get audio to work on the in resolve) I was able to finally render with normal audio after I unplugged the headphone... That’s strange that the audio changed when you rendered it out. It sure what’s going on there with out looking at it. As for no audio in headphones, I’ve heard that Resolve doesn’t support ASIO drivers which is what drives the headphones in windows. If you unplug the headphones and use the computer speakers if you have them, it may work.

Have you checked in preferences, system, then audio-video I/o and try changing from system settings to manual or vice versa? Then restart resolve and see what happens. Many people have been having this issue and it seems to be a different fix for everyone.

You can do that. Even if you set levels before Noise Removal, you'll probably still have to adjust levels a bit because you'll partly loose some gain/volume after the NR i applied.

For moto vlogging on gopro7 black and silver. I also picked up a zoom h1n hoping to get better sound. There's to much wind noise through my helmet. What record settings would you suggest and when you move them into DR it always asks if I want to change the settings. When you open DR what's the 1st things you should do? Can you do a video on camer settings and DR settings? I know you have a few videos covering different points but having an all in 1 would be really nice. Within reason of course Don't go making 1 long hour video, cutting it up is fine, but a from beggining to end. How to orginize files n such. I've had 2 seagate external drives bug out on me. I could read from and pull my files off but I can't write to them anymore. My internal has 1gb of 256 free. (I know small, Never did install the 2nd 1tb and it's time for a new pc anyway.)

Hi! Do you want it to be editable? You can probably just put that element in a project by itself, then from the project manager menu, right click on the project and choose 'export project archive'. It will package up everything you need. Send that file over, they open it and can use any of the elements in it. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

Broadcast standard you audio can never hit the red or they will reject your film or video, as audio for voices should hit around 12db for highest and around 20db for normal voice. As setting the master audio is a whole different ball game. I understand alot of youtubers like that red spot so they think its good and its not, as youtube is will compress your audio if its not hitting the right lfs.

@@JasonYadlovski there is alot more to then just hitting normalized audio, as on set are levels never go past 12db and then in post I'll use iztope rx7 if needed then an eq clean up then using keyframes to get the right levels for each person and a soft compress so it stays at 12db to 20db then my master out hits 10db no higher with a litter 6-db for broadcast standard.

I’ve got Logic Pro X and Ableton that I use for music production, but it’s a little janky for film audio specifically. I’ve had a plethora of issues opening .AAF files that sound recordings use on set. Ableton also doesn’t have .AAF support at all, so no luck there. I’ve been bingeing this guys channel because from my experience it looks like Fairlight or Pro Tools are the way to go, regardless of what operating system you use.

I love audio too :) I'm having issues lately though. If I'm just voicing over a video without talking head I find my headset works great. For talking head my place is so noisy using any other mic... construction outside, neighbor we call bambam, dogs licking themselves, PC fans. I don't want to do talking head with a headset on, but there's just too much background noise to remove it all in post. Any suggestions? I've tried lapel mics, Samson meteor mic, rode go mics, h4n Zoom... My headset only pics up my voice but all these others pick up everything. My studio is my living room and that's my only option, so that doesn't help, lol.

Hey! So a few thoughts, it might sound a little silly, but I've heard of people showing a blanket over their head and mic to cut down on any noise, lol. That might help. But the thing I'd actually try is the pick one of your mic's and play with the settings you are recording at. Try turning the gain of the device down very low, which should help make the mic less sensitive. For example, the Mic I use in all of my videos - the Yeti, I have the gain at about 1/8 of the way up from completely off. So not on very much. Then on my computer I've got the sound settings at about 50%. It picks up very little background noise. Another example, when I'm using a wav on my 5DIV, I make sure I turn the audio settings on the camera as low as I can while still getting a decent signal. That's going to reduce background noise as well. Remember, you can always boost up the 'volume/levels' once you bring it into Resolve. You can boost it quite a bit too, so experiment with some very 'low volume' recordings out of your device. I think experimenting with the recording settings are going to help the most since you can't really fix your environment. Hope some of this helps.

I always aim for my dialogue to be around -10 db. Give or take a little is ok. For KZbin videos, I've found if it's a little over -10 db, say -8db or so, that helps with the overall loudness (LUFS) levels I try to meet of -14 LUFS. The most important thing is that your aren't peaking or getting that meter up to the top, which would indicate peaking audio.
