If you really want to clear your fundamental and want to learn programming then you should definitely learn java or c, c++.

With Java you will hardly learn fundamentals because Java has a lot of abstractions. 1st abstraction is JVM, 2nd abstraction is bytecode. Java code does not run at native machine performance as it runs on its Virtual Machine. If you want to learn a language that runs on bare metal hardware chose something like C, C++ or its newer derivatives like Rust or Go.

Yes you can continue your learning in Java definitely don't demotivate.Java is still in demand in corporate becoz already so much code is written already which is not replaceable easily that means they will update same previous versions in Java most probably so they hire more people.
