The Rise of ISIS: Conversations With People Who Lived Under Its Rule | Full Documentary

What turned Ibrahim Aouad, an educated, moderate man from Samara, into Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the most wanted terrorist in the world? How were ISIS able to take control of such a large area in a matter of months?
Director Kamal Redouani, who has travelled extensively in the Middle East for the past 10 years, gained rare access to al-Baghdadi’s childhood village, where his family still live, and spoke to those who knew him.
He visited the notorious prison of Abu Ghraib and investigated how an alliance of jihadis and former officials under Saddam Hussein enabled Al Qaeda’s associates to infiltrate the Arab revolutions. He also collected unpublished testimonies of those who have killed for ISIS or been forced to live under its rules in their Caliphate.
This documentary was produced by Tony Comiti and directed by KAMAL REDOUANI. It was first released in 2016.

in any religion or ideology there will be many who profess, but do not practice, its tenets. it is often easier for a muslim to stay at home rather than embark on jihad. even muhammad noticed that, hence Surah 2:216 FIGHTING is PRESCRIBED for you, and you dislike it. But it is possible that you dislike a thing which is GOOD FOR YOU, and that you love a thing which is bad for you. But allah knows and you know not. furthermore, there are also people who do not really understand their own faith and so act outside of its prescribed boundaries. in islam, there are likely many muslims who do not really understand their religion thanks to the importance of reciting the qur'an in arabic but not having to understand it. the violent injunctions of the qur'an and the violent precedents set by muhammad set the tone for the islamic view of politics and of world history. islamic scholarship divides the world into two spheres of influence, the house of islam (dar al-islam) and the house of war (dar al-harb). islam means submission, and so the house of islam includes those nations that have submitted to islamic rule, which is to say those nations ruled by sharia law. the rest of the world. which has not accepted sharia law and so is not in a state of submission, exists in a state of rebellion or war with the will of allah. it is incumbent on dar al-islam to make war on dar al-harb until such time that all nations submit to the will of allah and accept sharia law. islam's message to the non muslim world is the same now as it was in the time of muhammad and throughout history: submit or be conquered. the only times when dar al-islam was not actively at war with dar al-harb was when the muslims was too weak or divided to make war effectively. but the lulls that dar al-islam declared against dar al-harb do not indicate a forsaking of jihad as a principle but reflect a change in strategic factors. it is acceptable for muslims to declare hudna, or truce, at times when the infidels are too powerful for open warfare to make sense.jihad is not a collective suicide pact even while killing and being killed (surah 9:111) is encouraged on an individual level. the muslims has been too politically fragmented and technologically inferior to pose a major threat. but that can change the four sunni madhhabs (islamic religious jurisprudence) - hanafi, maliki, shafi'i and hanbali - all agree that there is a collective obligation on muslims to make war on dar al-harb. furthermore, even the schools of thought outside sunni orthodoxy, including sufism and the jafari (shia) school, agree on the necessity of jihad. when it comes to matters of jihad, the different schools disagree on such matters as whether takfir (infidels) must be first asked to convert to islam before hostilities may begin (like what osama bin laden did in 9/11), how plunder should be distributed among victorious jihadists or whether long term strategy against dar al-harb is preferable to an all-out frontal attack and other trivial matters
