I want people to realize the gentleman who stated his mother stayed in Lebanon was one if the most decent women on earth. Besides stopping all recking balls from taking historic building down, she fought for the environment and she was 100 years ahead of her time. She was alive until 2020 when the explosion damaged Beirut, and building, homes, and historic landmarks that survived the civil war, were damaged severely. She had extensive damage to her family home, and sadly she was injured, which led to her death. I don’t think anyone could ever be like her again.

I fell in love with Lebanon and Beirut after getting to know an Armenian Christian family who had lived there for generations before emigrating to the U.S. Their photos, memories and stories were so wonderful and they spoke often of the communities living side by side, often working or playing together, but never losing their own cultural and religious uniqueness. I loved the French influence and the chicness and glamour of their life. The mountains, beaches, food and culture including fabulous music and performing arts festivals to rival any in the world.

As a LEBANESE/AMERICAN myself, we migrated ALMOST 50 years ago due to the war, let me tell you, it is not that easy to leave behind your home and your land, seeking for a new future! Especially after leaving this beauty we all watched.thank you for putting this video together, Truly my heart brakes seeing how LEBANON evolved, and what was the reason for all these wars. I remember as a child growing up, First when the syrians took over, then the Palestinians came along to rule our land, as the civil war ravaged Lebanon. As i always wondered, these people ran away from the king of Jordan,for sure it is a strategic spot on the map for them,and i couldn't just connect the dots. Once i remember wishing all syrians death, asking God to ruin their country as they ruined our country,after the killing of one of my cousins at a syrian barricade, simply for his name, and No one dared to get close to his car to even check if the was alive, Was a true horrific scene, simply for his name. As what followed were the Palestinians that took over many homes without even asking or knocking at the door, today what we seebin the news is this Iranian like militia, that extended feom Iran, to Iraq, to Syria and Lebanon, ending up in YEMEN. I believe this is the true issue of the geopoliticall delema, as the gears are shifting form the West to the East. I truly dont know if we ever going to see LEBANON in it's former Glory. Only with Democracy that could be achieved, DESPITE the religious leaders, trying hard to destroy its past as it's future. I wish all LEBANESE living abroad peace joy and love!. I cannot write my religion Nor my faith in God, as that i keep secret in my heart, but i hope the new generations could find some books to read, only to understand where all these Lebanese troubles started. I think these (the general attitude of the rich Christian elite in Lebanon) expressions of "the others" underline the endemic detachment from reality which ultimately made them the "underdogs". These people do not represent Lebanese or Christians within Lebanon. I watched this with an open mind but honestly found it extremely off-putting. First and foremost, they spoke everything but their mother tongue throughout the doco, that in itself is pretentious. Arabic is such a rich and beautiful language, the expression and description it offers is second to none, so why not use it?!? Secondly, they live in a bubble! If this was released in 2019, Lebanon was entering into its biggest financial crisis to date, and there is no way on Earth these people with their millions and therefore connections, didn't know it was coming. I didn't sense any compassion, empathy or humility in anything they said. I understand these people are of the "elite" kind (totally loathe that word, but will use it for want of a better term), but they have proven money doesn't buy class, only groupies who want to snap up a piece of what they have so they put them on pedestals. Yuk!

For me I didn’t have a problem with their wealth per se. It was the tone & feel of their character & lifestyle. They were conspicuously flashy & dazzling. Ideally wealth should enable people to shine & sparkle to nourish others. Their attitude to parties during the conflict was self-focused - I wonder if they invited the struggling poor to join them! They would have appreciated the boost the most. I understand the gap between rich & poor May have helped start the civil war.

First of all, the documentary is made to show how ridiculous and burlesque most of these people are. It's not made to show their prestige but only to make fun of them. Second, you are right when saying that these people life is in total contradiction with the Christian faith. The film tries to show this contradictions by showing sequences in churches directly after the sequences with a belly dancer for example. Third, like many people said it in the comments, they don't represent the Christians of Lebanon. Actually , they don't even represent the "rich" Christians of Lebanon. Moreover, lebanese muslims too has an economical "elite" and some of its members are as much decadent and ridiculous as the people we see in this video. Some people said in the comments that these people are responsible of the terrible economical/political crisis in Lebanon but that's not true. They have no/very limited political influence. However, they clearly got advantaged by the system in lebanon with nearly no tax for the riches, no social garanties paid by the employer, low wages ... Finally, to be fair, some of the people presented deserve respect. In particular, the Lebanese Venezuelan which is a smart businessman.

What are the income sources of these rich Lebanese? How are they able to stay just as rich when the common people lost all their savings and have to rely on donations even for food, medicine etc?

By the way, families who constitute the "elite" in Lebanon are made from all religions. And now the economic crisis is touching everybody. If you are a tourist, and bring american dollar, you can be considered "elite".

Especially if one claims to be Christian. True Christians live by the laws of God, which are antithetical to how these people live, in religious hypocrisy at its best, and it goes down from there.

I'm not going to give you a history lesson, yes it's true it was the Christians who created Lebanon AND they were also the ones who decided to extend the borders of Lebanon to the Muslim regions and not the other way around. The Muslim regions of the north like Tripoli and Al Denieh where I come from refused to join Lebanon there were big demonstrations and even a general strike in Tripoli, but it was French colonialism with the Maronite patriarch who forced these Muslim regions to become Lebanese. Tripoli, Al Denieh etc... wanted to join Syria because they were of the same religion. Until today it is called Trablous Al Cham, as for the inhabitants of Al Denieh until today they do not feel attached to Lebanon for many.

I understand things have changed since Lebanon's financial crisis began but it is worth noting that Christians seem to do better in life than Muslims. Why is that????

It looks very decadent, when you see super rich in a very poor and actually failed country. You always have those innovative entrepreneurs becoming rich and those who are rich and are actually worthless for the country. But as long as they pay taxes they still contribute to the country. But if you don’t have the first ones and second ones don’t pay taxes, you have what you have. Now it looks like a shame

The truth is Christian Lebanon opened its arms to Muslim Arabs who needed help. As thanks, their country was overrun by Islamists who started attacking Christians. They were invaded and colonised. A good lesson to other countries.

This isn't just the lifestyle of Christians - this is the lifestyle of the ruling classes/wealthy... I am sure it is the same in most countries regardless of religion - Lebanon is a modern country for many although you may have strata of society that is religious and may live in that manner on a daily basis.

I know right. The level of bigotry is insane. I would move back to Lebanon but I can’t actually fathom how people think their religion is some kind of subculture. Relax, a rich Muslim would have more “class” than a poor Christian. Let the sectarianism fucking go and be Lebanese. One people. One land.

Finally, to be fair, some of the people presented deserve respect because they are good businessmen/protect heritage...
@danielgrimes459710 ай бұрын
Perhaps they influenced/corrupted politicians with their money. To me the problem was the tone & feel of their lifestyle. Wealth can be used to shine, sparkle & uplift. Or Glare/Flash & Dazzle which aggravates those poor & struggling.

All this doom is brought to us by those who run the globe. I. e U S & their European subjects. They forced upon Lebanon (thru parliament) to sign the Taif Agreement in 1990, which allowed all militia leaders of the so called civil war to rule the country. It happened they were non-Christian (the Christian militia leader was imprisoned right afterwards for 11 years). So we moved from the Maronite-Christian era (inspire of its certain defects) to the Moslem rule. This is the result: a country in debt, collapsed banks (by fraud) while those in power arranged to smuggle their billions to western banks.

It is surely now a necessity to set up an independent Christian state in Lebanon as a safe haven for Christians there and all across the Middle East. It is odd that the West with its Christian heritage has given so much support to a Jewish state but nothing whatever for the many isolated and vulnerable Christian peoples of this unhappy region.
