eh, we had a dll that was done in C which ran slower than the same java code(and java was written procedurally on purpose)....same exact code too. one distributed as binary dll, other distributed as jar file. it of course was a micro benchmark though.

JIT is just in time compilation. While binary code you mentioned if before you got app on your machine compilation. Only difference is that compilation time is added once to JIT in comparison to pre-compiled code. So aside from additional start-up time I fail to see how JIT code is more inefficient then non JIT code in ways that matter. Actually considering we live in a world of different machine implementations, JIT can produce potentially faster code then pre-compiled adaption it to machine
