Javed saab is a street smart fighting cricketer. He was ahead of his times, especially in Pakistan, who had colonial hangover. He , as Country's Cricket Captain , asked Mike Gatting to pack his bags and leave the country, when the latter had finger waving fight with umpire Shakoor rana. Javed lifted his bat to hit , the originial bully of the cricket, Dennis lillee. This is significant for the fact that no one used to mess with fast bowlers those days, and the popular perception would be there be retaliation with bouncers and there was no such 2 bouncer rules. As Rameez saab mentioned , his consistency was good. He is not orthodox in his batting, but very effective. One more aspect which people often forget is his agility as a close in fielder, who was instrumental in getting many opposition batsmen run out. He was quick between the wickets , especially considering the fitness of cricketers those days. Even in life- as a person from muhajir family, he fought manfully to make his career in Pakistan.

Pakistan needed coaches like him, i remember he was coach back in 2003-4 i think and yasir hameed was batting and he was struggling in late 90's and he pointed him to come out of the crease and play shot and that works.
