Being a superstar has its perks: magazine covers, red carpets, aesthetically-pleasing coworkers; but, for a guy like Javier Bardem, the biggest reward is the chance to do meaningful work.
Javier comes from a family of actors and directors - artists who weren't afraid to speak their minds - and Javier is no exception.
His gift is versatility: He can be charming, vulnerable, or, a psycho killer with a ridiculous haircut - every character is played with total conviction.
In 2008, he won an Oscar for No Country For Old Men, becoming the first Spaniard to win an Academy Award. Javier's latest project is called, 'Sons of the Clouds: The Last Colony', a documentary that's close to his heart.
It's about the people of the Western Sahara, the Sahrawi, who have been caught in a political standoff - a territorial dispute that's lasted for three decades. It's a humanitarian crisis that's been largely ignored, something Javier wants to change.

Why is there so much negativity about Javier's involvement in the Sahrawi conflict? I mean, I don't pretend to understand what is going on in Morrocco right now, and until recently I'd never even heard of the issue, but from what I've heard all that Bardem is interested in is trying to resolve the human rights problem in the area. How can you criticize a man for shedding light on a humanitarian crisis? It's not like he's trying to push some political agenda! All he's doing is trying to help people whose lives are under threat and unprotected by the law. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT?

I'm not what you'd call a fan of Bardem and his political views, but that's maybe the weirdest thing I've heard about him. He's very left-oriented and when it comes to Franco's actions... well, all you have to do is check his family's background. I mean, if Hollywood is known for its liberal bias, you should see the Spanish industry. They make the former look like a Rick Santorum support group.

Une petite lettre à Javier Bardem. Propagandiste espagnol et acteur, ça lui arrive. Il aime jouer des rôles à ce qui paraît. Tout d'abord avant de commencer, je te pisse dessus au nom de tous les Marocains fiers pour avoir parler de mon pays de la sorte. Le pays qui a introduit la guitare au tien... (au passage une petite pensée au grand homme Andalou qui vient de nous quitter) Et ce même si tu n'as fait que rapporter les propos d'un ambassadeur, car tu n'assumes pas tes paroles la fouine. Au fond de toi tu sais que tu ne joues qu'un rôle. Cracher sur le Maroc pour faire la promo de ton "documentaire" que personne ne regardera d'ailleurs (à part ta petite bande de haineux peut être). Mais au lieu de ça tu te retrouveras avec des procès au cul car l'ambassadeur a déjà tout nié et tu vas devoir te justifier devant un juge. Ça t'apprendra à insulter les Marocains.
