@@javosgarage Unfortunately my 2005 T&C 3.8 uses a different kind of gasket. The outer piece (oil filter adapter side) has a little groove and it requires a sunken sealer. Anyway, your video is awesomely useful!

One thing that may be helpful, that I didn't see mentioned in the video: the lowest, most accessible bolt is a ~15 mm, and the upper 2 are ~13 mm, one of which is the long one he mentions. So all 3 bolts are unique, or at least they are on my 2007, that I just did this job on. So if you're like me, and got the most accessible 15 mm bolt off first, and then went after the next 2 that aren't as easy to see, with a 15 mm socket, and got nowhere, it's because your socket is just spinning on the bolt head. Switch to a 13 mm for the other 2. Very helpful video otherwise, thank you!

Thanks for your video. I just changed the Filter Adapter last night after I watched your video. Gave me a little more confidence, and all went well with NO leaks now. We have had the van since 2006, and it has had a small leak for the past year, nothing bad, but about a quarter size drop with each stop, but in the past week, that has become more, and I worried it would be something more major, but doing my research, it seems to be a problem with the gasket or filter adapter going bad. Anyway, thank you for sharing.

Thank You, I just recently purchased a 2008 T&C and I heard this could be an issue. Simple easy fix. When I looked under mine I saw a small oil leak, just starting, and it could have been this or the front of the oil pan gasket. I am betting on this gasket.

Thank you so much for the compliment. I appreciate you taking a moment to provide me with some feedback, much appreciated! This is a pretty simple job to do and doesn't take much time to complete. I would only say if you go to your local parts store they will usually sell you the wrong gasket (I've had this happen a few times). I ended up returning the one they ordered for me because it was completely wrong. Your best options are either the dealership or through the link I provided in the description. Good luck to you on your project, if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Hey Javo, I know this is an old video and I hope this comment finds you well. In the Service Manual for the vans it also shows the torque specs to be 250 INCH lbs. Page 9-2170. The one I found online was from a 2008 3.3/3.8L engine. Looks like it all worked out!

Very informative. Do you know if this is very common on the 3.8? Mine's a 2010.
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 4 жыл бұрын
@Chris Seymour - Well, the best answer I can give you is based off of my own experience. I have had to change this gasket about 15% of the time as opposed to the oil pan gasket which would be about 70% of the time ('01 - '07 3.8L models). So based off of my personal experience I wouldn't say it's real common, but it is an issue to keep an eye on. I believe it's less likely in your generation (08+). I hope that helps you. Thank you for stopping by!
@mikespainting291

I changed my gasket and mine was the old thin type .no problems there but somehow I still have a leak not bad the oil is pooling around the bottom of the filter, but the weird thing is everything else is dry just the bottom of the filter side’s of the filter dry,adapter gasket dry, maybe the sending unit?
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 3 жыл бұрын
@Mike Selsvik - I think you're on the right track here Mike. It's possible maybe there was some flaw in your new gasket but I would tend to look at either the filter or the sending unit at this point. If it were me, I'd take a can of brake cleaner, clean that whole area really well so it's nice and dry then let the motor run for a little bit so I could pinpoint the exact cause of your leak. It's not real common but I have replaced about 3 or 4 of those sending units over the years due to leaking (btw, they make a specialty socket for that). Let me know what you find and if you have any questions along the way please don't hesitate to ask. Good luck on your project, you got this!

I was given a seal not a gasket for this is that correct? It’s fel pro part number is 73042
@javosgarage
@javosgarage Жыл бұрын
Hi Mitchell. The Fel-Pro 73042 will most likely be incorrect. The 73042 is for the oil filter adapter that has grooves in it to place this seal. They are pretty rare and only make up a small percentage of production. The most commonly used gasket is a flat gasket designed to be "sandwiched" between the block and the oil filter adapter; creating a nice, tight seal. The Fel-Pro part number for that seal is 71239. There is a link in the video description for this seal. I hope this helps you. Good luck with your project, it's pretty simple and straight forward once you have the right gasket. Thanks for stopping by!

ITS ACTUALLY A EASY ONE .I USED BREAK CLEANER ARERSOL TO CLEAN THE AREA BEFORE I STARTED LOOKING FOR THE LEAK, IT HELPED ME FIND THE LEAK IN ABOUT 5 MIN.
