I used to drive Java 350 in my youth. Had an old chz 250 before, then a lot of other different bikes. Now I am almost fifty, I have 3 bikes in my garage and have quite a huge experience under my belt. But until now I did not know that Java had such an interesting model. Class! I would very much like to see this machine live.

Hlavně už by to v dnešní době Češi nekupovali. Krásně to bylo vidět u znovuzrození MZ, později MuZ. Vyráběly se moderní stroje, každý chválil, no nikdo si to nekupoval a zase ta fabrika krachla.

There were single carb versions of most British Twins. 350, 500, 650 and 750 Less tuning. My 1949 Indian 249 440cc Warrior Scout was single carb. 27HP but over square. Short push rods, like a Vincent. A desert racer did well with a 500cc version, fabricated his own swing arm suspension. Steve McQueen graciously sent me a set of Edison Electric points for mine...1968. Gratis, from his hanger home.... via the Indian dealer grapevine... I thanked him at the Sebring 12 Hours, 1970... Wish I could have restored the worn out, $90 machine.. $$$!! I did not have... J.C.

Ducati 125 GP bike of about 1954 was sohc bevel drive. Begat our wonderful 1964 250 Ducati Diana which we road raced at an amateur level, 1970-1972.. Florida AMA Sportsman events. Dade City Fairgrounds, Lakeland, PBIR... I tuned it to turn 10,500 rpm... up from 9,000 and 97 mph... 117 mph out on our 8 Mile Dead End (Old SR-579, N. of USF..) Flying quarter mile runs, avg. of two runs. No fairing.... 10, 200....in 5th.. We kept it on the trailer at Daytona, one year there... Saw another 250 rider come off, just as were entering the paddock... Turn 1... 2nd Practice Destroying his older leathers...he limped away... A BSA Triple rider was not so lucky... leg and arm in casts... LESSONS! My hand me down Bates were newer, but my cousins "leathers" were Fake! Naugahyde! Tailored to look right.... TISSUE PAPER! Fine where one went of onto the grass after one bump.... But NOT with acres of tarmac and concrete to slide on... We DID see DuHamel RD-350 teach Hanging Off lessons, to Mike The Bike (CBR-750) Paul Smart ( Suzuki 3 cyl.) also was instructive to all, in the technique... A Norton 500 Atlas rider had shown us the same at our tracks... Sliding out of the tighter corners.... HE had learned in NZ and Australia... from a rider named Anderson... While "flying the trash" out back down there... GUTS! BIG BALLS! as Sir James Hunt would say... Dade City was a 1.7 mile 12 turn one lane access road for the fair... Up and down hill... cattle country...Green, red clay of the sides Like a tiny stretch of the TT.... ( Surrounding a 1/3rd mile clay oval for our 250 Scrambler ) Yamaha TD-1b country... A Yoshimira CB-350 was aut as fast there.. We were mid-pack... 80 mph laps.. My 140 lb. cousin... classic riding style I was 175, or so.... So I stuck to chassis setup Engine tuning from Cycle Magazines editor.... Factory "green "racing cam and titanium bits for the hairpin springs.. Found in a scruffy box at our cycle scrapping yard out of Tampa I was a parts stripper there....1969 -1970 Ariel Square 4 to MoPeds.. Vespas, Puch's... you name it, from Europe.... 4 wheel trailer loads SE dealers... No Jap shit! COULD have built up a NOR-VIN on the cheap! Two engines in crates Ex-Daytona Domi-racer feather bed rollers.. Machinist and welder friends... Another story.... As with our NSU 501 Konsul II / Mustang scooter framed Hybrid... Thumper... Piston sat still BIKE went up and down.... WHEELIE KING... 18" Indian Warrior rear wheel 16" Ducati 125 front... GOOD on smooth I-4 clover leafs, actually... Named: UGONDA! Turned heads at Sebring! On the FLA Beaches! Those were some fun times! No 'Nam Bike Crash, 18th birthday, '67... No NAVY (Optician's mate), No USAF ( Airman Armorer) No Europe.... But I LIVED! So many didn't make it home.... 50,000+ J.C.
