I always thought the deleted scene where they all vote should have stayed in the film. It showed that Mayor Vaughn still had loyalty to Brody and that he didn't forget what Brody did in the first film. You miss all of that with that scene cut out.
@cretinousjester34756 жыл бұрын
Robert Sleeth: I have to wonder what he did after Brody saved his kid at the end. He's a very complex character. Not really likeable but not fully hateable either. Sure he makes his mistakes and those mistakes even led to deaths but I do think he thinks of the town more than the movie shows and from I remember of the book- he's bent over backwards for it in the past. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes with that responsibility and situation.
@jamesshunt51236 жыл бұрын
@@cretinousjester3475 In the novel Vaughn knew that Amity had been struck hard by the economic recessions of the early 70's and had difficulties making ends meet. As an Eastern Coast town it definitely needed the summer season as its income. Vaughn had also borrowed some money from the mob knowing his own neck was at stake should not the coming summer not be a hit. For this reason him refusing to believe a shark had staked a claim in the territorial waters around Amity made sense. It's also implied he believes Brody's report but foolishly believes the shark attack will be a one-off and that whatever shark killed Chrissie Watkins probably followed the current down the coast. Vaughn also realizes that he is cash-strapped already and doesn't like Quint very much (who in the movie tells Brody:"Get the mayor off my back I don't want to hear any more of this zoning crap!") and thinks paying him what he asks to catch and kill the shark is akin to him being mugged by a salty old seaman. Vaughn also clearly understands that Brody is a good and resourceful man who probably will be an asset to Amity and himself in the future. He therefore doesn't want to antagonize Brody directly but instead tries to "reason" with him. In the movie he even openly admits to Brody the town needs "summer dollars". He likes Brody but knows at the same time he can't let him have his way - not at such a sensitive moment both for Amity and for him as a mayor. In Jaws 2 Vaughn still likes Brody - probably because he saved the town by killing the shark and becoming a local hero in the process - but at the same time he's stuck in bad position between the town council and the new investors and chief Brody. For this reason it's hardly surprising he votes to keep Brody in the deleted scene. In short, I believe Vaughn definitely respects Brody and wants to have him in Amity because he's a competent and honest man but he hopes to gloss over any potential threats (even shark problems) until it all has cooled down and then everything can be back to normal and everybody be happy.

Bit of a weak part in the movie methinks. The original script actually had the entire town full of paranoid people spotting sharks in every pond, phone pranks about sharks etc so that Brody began dismissing all reports as jokes. On top of that the real estate business is financed by the mob who sends their enforcers to Amity to collect from people who owe them money and in the cases they can't pay they're killed and dumped far out in the sea. For Brody it appears as if the mob is killing people which is why they go missing and he doesn't suspect a shark until the second part of the movie and even then he wonders if *he* is going paranoid too following the encounter of the first shark. He did have a confrontation with the town council but that was due to all kinds of shady people moving into Amity which would explain why they ignore him since they know where all the money comes from to finance their new real estate project... In reality there's no way Vaughn or anybody else in the town council would choose to ignore Brody's warnings a second time. Knowing the bad press and publicity they got the last time they'd no doubt make absolutely sure there wasn't another white shark near Amity.

The shark wasn’t openly creating havoc like in the first film

While this movie isn’t fantastic like the first one, it is clearly the best sequel. Roy Scheider didn’t wanna be here, but he gave us a great performance, regardless. A class act and a true professional. Thankfully, we remember this movie because of his performance and not because of the shark, which was his fear from the beginning.

Jaws 2 is a legit attempt to make a movie. I’m never going to take that away from anybody who wants to argue that. They threw some effort into this, Chief Brody is really fun to watch whenever we get to see him. And there are some good visual effects at times. It’s not as amazing as the first one but it’s at least an attempt to mirror it.

I love when Brodie is replying : "I bet your life that've I messed up my mind, but I'm telling you and I'm telling everybody around this table that, that's a shark and if I know this it's because I've seen one up close and you better do something about this one cuz I'm not going through that hell again!"

The guy on the town council with the dark hair obviously wanted Brody fired from his job even before the panic on the beach because he doesn‘t like Brody. The town council didn‘t learn from the 1st time Brody told them to close the beaches until they got rid of a rogue shark attacking swimmers. They didn‘t listen until one attacked a man and almost got Brody‘s 1st born son,Mike.

This is actually my favourite scene in Jaws 2. Along with the Scene where Brody shoots his gun at the Blue Fish at the Beach. Some of Jaws 2 is awful but some in some of it they were really on to something.

The director didn't know the material like he did such a bad job directing this film.. and that's why the movie was bad aside from chief Brody.. if it wasn't for Roy Schieder's performance this would have been a bad sequel..

Scheider was such a great actor, such presence. Watch his reactions as they all claim not to see anything in the picture. He didn’t even want to make this movie, he had to do it to fulfil a contractual obligation. Even so he turns us a great performance and he seems suitably wired. Such an underrated talent, he was strong in every picture.

In the book and in the first two movies, you could argue, as people have, that the greedy humans, who don't care a fig for the public but only care about money, are like human sharks--or are, in their way, just as bad as the actual killer shark.
