A helicopter arrives to help tow the teenagers to the shore, but right as they rig up a rope line, the helicopter is attacked by the shark and dragged underwater.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Despite being a less well-regarded virtual remake of the original film, Jaws 2 earned a tidy sum at the box office by combining its predecessor's winning formula with the popular teen horror craze, helping to spawn the era of blockbuster sequels. Roy Scheider returns as Sheriff Martin Brody, whose small resort town of Amity is poised to bounce back from the economic hardship it encountered after becoming widely known as the site of vicious shark attacks. But at the same time that Mayor Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) is welcoming a real estate developer to Amity, two divers disappear and a party of waterskiers is consumed by a shark. The incidents are explained away as accidents, but Brody knows better, tipping his bullets with cyanide and forbidding his sons Mike (Mark Gruner) and Sean (Marc Gilpin) to participate in a teen sailing regatta. Everyone foolishly chalks up Brody's fears to trauma-induced paranoia, and the regatta goes forward, with a hungry great white trailing the youthful contestants and hungrily picking them off one by one. Director Jeannot Szwarc would later helm another sequel, Supergirl (1984).

I feel bad for the pilot. He tried to save those kids, but the shark killed him before he could save them. We can't say he didn't try. Edit: The fact Marge gave up her life to save Sean was Amazing. After the helicopter was capsized by the shark, none of the teenagers tried to save the helicopter pilot. They could have pulled the rope that was tied to their boat, and tried to open the door to see whether the helicopter pillot was still alive or not. None of the teenagers ever acknowledged or said that the helicopter pilot had lost his life, trying to save the group of teenagers. For all the teenagers knew the helicopter pilot might have been married with children and his kids didn't have a dad anymore.

The helicopter pilot should‘ve called the Coast when he found the kids on their damaged sailboats heading towards Cable Junction. He should‘ve had a gun or a flare gun to defend himself when the shark attacked him when it got attracted to the vibrations of the helicopter as it was taking off with one end of the rope attached and the other to the kids‘ boats while trying to rescue them.

I've seen numerous reviews about how the teenagers are the worst part about this movie, but I don't see it that way. The actors all did a phenomenal job selling the terror and horror of the scenes -- you can believe they're really being attacked by a relentless shark. Not to mention the fact that the teenagers prove themselves to be heroic and self-sufficient. They look out for each other and put themselves at risk to help each other. Marge even pays the ultimate price saving Shawn's life. Yeah Jackie is annoying, but they make a point in the movie that she's not an Amity native and is a fish out of water in this situation. Otherwise they're believable characters who handle themselves as best as teenagers can in a horrible situation.

The problem was that it came off like a teenage slasher flick (minus the sexually repressed female lone survivor). In retrospect, it certainly didn't help this came out only 2 years before Friday the 13th. The biggest problem was the utter lack of manipulation and a very heavy reliance on special effects as opposed to good acting and writing. I mean, none of the scenes had any build up whatsoever. It was like people there, shark appears, people scream, chaos follows, shark leaves, remaining characters re-compose themselves, rinse and repeat. Plus, the town of Amity; in the first movie it was a quaint fishing and beach town. Here, Amity seems to be just booming with industry and more and more people. I mean, you're telling me that after the events of the first movie not only did Amity not recede into a ghost town but is now one of the fastest growing cities in America?
