@Films At Home Yeah I saw that documentary, and its a horrible documentary that lies about the original sound effects getting the special 7.1 treatment, severely ignores the fact that the color timing is revisionist compared to Technicolor prints, the grain mostly being scrubbed out and the Mono Mix not sounding as good as it did on the 30th Anniversary DVD and ESPECIALLY the 1995 Signature Laserdisc. No one should take that documentary serious, its a lying revisionist piece of crap.

What I like about it is it still stands up today. I have heard people talk about doing a remake of it, but why? It will most likely end up worse. Just do different movies like have been done already. Like deep blue or the meg. I showed it to some teenagers at a party a few years ago and it scared the crap out of them.

Good to see they've put some effort into the packaging. Too many 4k releases are just plain releases in a black case. I think I've got only three 4k releases with special packaging: Your Name, They Live and The Elephant Man. For as far as I know all others are just regular black cases (some with, but others without slipcover). I want to see more special packaging. Come to think of it: I forgot the Jurassic Park trilogy and the 50 Years of Planet of the Apes collection (only the reboot trilogy is in 4k). Speaking of trilogies: I'm still waiting for an announcement of the release dates of the Back to the Future, Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies. Plus, still hoping for a 4k release of the Leone/Eastwood Spaghetti Western trilogy.

The second summer blockbuster! (Believe it or not, "Mary Poppins" was the first.) A great movie, one of my favorites, and arguably STILL Spielberg's best movie, despite it only being his sophomore feature film effort. I WILL buy this 4K HD, without a doubt. Thanks for the review!

I'm a huge Godfather fan but I question how much of an upgrade over the Blu-ray it would be, which was a 10/10 release. The first two are generally softer looking anyway, and they really don't need Atmos. Then again I could be surprised. HDR could make the many dark scenes have more depth with better highlights and shadows.

@@GuitarGuy5000000000 just like Jaws, The Godfather restorations were done in 4K and then downscaled to 1080P. From what were hearing the Jaws 4K looks amazing so that and with added HDR the Godfather films could look even better than the current blu rays.

Though Jaws has a completely different look to it and was shot quite differently than the Godfather and because of that I feel it had a lot more opportunity to do something special with 4K and HDR. The Godfather I just feel will have a lesser impact.

In Iceland, the title is "Ókindin", which is an old Icelandic word for a monster. It is not a commonly used word. I pre-ordered my copy from Zaavi. It is a steelbook. Cant wait.

I own the 4K steel book of The Thing from Shout Factory. One of my favorite prints. Shout Factory did a fantastic job on The Thing. I highly recommend it.

I just got my LG C1 and hooked it up to my Panasonic 9000. I threw in Jaws. All I can say is wow! It’s so clean. It could have been shot in the last 5 years. No film grain (that I can see). Colours are vibrant.

I saw 'Jaws' the night it opened on June 20, 1975 . . since then I have purchased 'Jaws' on Super 8mm, CED disc, Beta, Vhs, Laserdisc, DVD, Bluray and now 4k!! And yes, this is the best it has ever looked for home theatre . . but, I will only listen to the original mono track . . too many sound effect changes for me that take me out of the movie . . I know . . looks perfect, sounds perfect . . great review Jeff, great movie!!

Wow Jaws looks phenomenal in 4k. I'm just checking it out for the first time at the moment, I have seen and own quite a few 4K movies, I just recently started getting into them Jaws is in the lead for image wow factor. The death of that Ketner kid (I think that's his name) has never looked more gruesome. That's heavy. I forgot about that part, it just looks brutal in this transfer.

Oddly enough, John Williams' music is my only beef with the 1080p blu-ray: It's reverbed out way too thin into the 7.1 surrounds and you can't even hear the all-important opening "DAAA DUM", which lets you know the shark is there, under all the bubble sound-effects! Even though the original 1975 film soundtrack was mono, Universal did record the music in 1975 to 3-channel 35mm fullcoat magnetic masters. I hope they restored the closeup presence of the music in Atmos! Did they also include the original 1975 mono mix?

Great Review. I have Amazing memories of seeing Jaws in 75 at 15 yrs old at the Zigfield theater in NYC. The Best theater in the world. Jaws is a Perfect film. To me it's like 2 films in one.

I beg to differ a little with Mr Spielberg, in relation to the 4k being a better experience than 35mm. Visually, no doubt. Though it looked good back in the day. But 4k cannot replace the visceral impact, JAWS had to many an audience back in 1975.

Jeff actually misquoted him. Spielberg didn't say it was a better experience, he said that "the image on a really good hi-def TV screen looks better than the film looked when first projected in 1975."

I got the Best Buy exclusive Steelbook for one reason the cover art on the standard 4K Blu-Ray Disc is one of the worse I've seen. Your evidently a big Jaws fan. Have you noticed any 'changes' of Jaws?? Eg, it was always.... "We're gonna need a bigger boat" NOT "Your gonna need a bigger boat" ...other changes. On the poster Jaws's teeth have changed to goofy looking Mako sharks teeth. They used to be triangular like real life great whites and the Jaws prop as seen in the film. The 'J' has changed into a hook now, the letter 'A' is missing a bite mark. If you see these differences, welcome to the wacky world of the quantum effect. Your an 'old earther' If not, don't worry your from here in Orion's Finger.

Sorry, but this is a lazy release from Universal. The restoration is phenomenonal and obviously the hard work was done back in 2012 for the blu Ray release and now the 4k release. I'm not knocking that. But the actual package is disappointing. As a Jaws fan it's a repackage of everything we've already got. No new special features, same booklet from the Digibook, and they've butchered the original classic poster. Just awful from universal again. I shouldn't be surprised because they continuously fail to deliver on Jaws.
