I haven't heard a hot box detector like that for a while. Fascinating piece of technology, really. We used to listen in when chasing trains in Three Bridges, NJ., on the scanner. "Three hundred, twelve axles, no defects..." How in the world they detect a problem on a particular axle on a freight going 60mph just floors me. But then again, maybe I'm just easily amused/perplexed....lol 😎🇺🇸

Hello again from the UK. Really interesting video. Just when I have got used to seeing US trains street running we move on to the next level and see a train going into a building. A lot of US specific terminology here too, for example switching and switches. In the UK we call them 'points'. Watching the work at the end of the line is far more interesting than just watching the trains running along a main line.

Another great discovery by our Intrepid Explorer, finding another previously nearly anonymous short line. How does he do it? Persistence, Son, persistence. And an excellent nose for railfanning. Other railfans would have thought it enough just to show the locomotive. Not Jaw Tooth. He gives us the story behind the pictures. That’s why he’s the best. No contest.

Hey Jawtooth, that spur once went all the way to Madison Indiana. If you look on Google earth you'll see it ends on the south end of Columbus today, but the remnant right of way is visible down to North Vernon. There is still an abandoned cantilever bridge at the end of this spur, but no tracks on it. LIRC did build an additional siding going up to that bridge for storage I assume. That job on that side of town is busy everyday as they serve the metal yard, cardboard factory, and the plastic furniture company.

@reidcraig37394 жыл бұрын
Since you’re in Indiana I would recommend this. Down in the south west corner there is a major CSX line that goes from Evansville to Terre Haute. I assume it goes farther than Terre Haute but that’s all that I know of for that line. And I know it goes south into Kentucky across the Ohio. It is a little bit difficult to get back to that train bridge. But just north of Evansville in Princeton, it is joined by a Norfolk Southern line that goes all the way to Louisville. That line goes right past my college which is about 10 minutes away East from Princeton

They used to do a drop over by Costco in order to switch motive power to opposite end. Had you gone down the true end of the Madison branch towards the bridge there is a short run around where they park the ballast train. I&L runs an abundance of CSX northbound auto racks, would love to know how they route southbound racks. Ballast is to upgrade line for faster CSX trains.
@robp32464 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of the southbounds auto racks come back through Cincy and through La Grange to the Ford Plants.

This is what railroads should do, service their customers. Happy customers lead to nice profits. Making the low operating ratio leads to fat managment bonuses and investor happiness and unhappy customers. That will lead to the "disappearing railroad blues".
