Norfolk Southern Train With DPU Blocks Busy Railroad Crossing In Arlington Heights, Ohio Just Like I Saw On The Television News. 3 Trains Passed The Stopped Train Before It Moved. Also Includes Union Pacific Power Leading Train In Elmwood Place & 2 CSX Trains Passing In Cincinnati. All Of These Trains Are On The Same Norfolk Southern Line That Goes To Cincinnati.
I was watching the television news when I saw a story about trains stopping in Arlington Heights and blocking a busy road crossing. They also block the crossings in nearby Lackland. I went to Arlington Heights to see if this really happens. The first train to come through was a southbound train headed to Gest Street Yard in Cincinnati. Sure enough, it stopped over the main crossing in town and sat there for a long time. 3 northbound trains passed the stopped train before it started to move again.
The first northbound train came at the perfect time for me! While I was filming the southbound train's DPU all of a sudden I see a northbound train with mixed freight coming with the engine running long hood forward just like in the Norfolk & Western Railway days.
Shortly after that another train passes going northbound. This is an empty grain train.
The third train to pass is a manifest with a DPU shoving on the rear. That was a good one. After that I was considering whether or not to leave but I stuck around to see if the train would ever move. I finally got to film the rest of the train moving past me. After it passed me I show an air B&B house that I want to rent for a couple of nights to watch the trains pass in front of it. That is an old house that appears to be full of history. Should I stay there and make a video showing what it's like and how many trains pass it? Leave a comment. I know it's expensive but I will do it if I can come up with a good video like the one I did in LaGrange, Kentucky of the air B&B next to the street running track.
On the same day I also filmed a couple more trains that you will see next. The first train is heading to Gest Street Yard and is in Elmwood Place, Ohio. This is an NS train with Union Pacific leading. This is the first time that I have filmed this crossing from this angle. I was in my truck. lol
Finally, we head about a mile south of Elmwood Place to catch a northbound CSX freight train at the CSX and NS interchange. I had to wait for a southbound train to clear up before I was able to get the CSX train. I wish the southbound train had one less car but I still think the video came out pretty good. This train was filmed behind the Kroger's at Spring Grove. I rarely film here because the area is a little shady. I have seen several television news stories about bad things happening here. Anyway, I was glad to see this long mixed freight going up the Toledo Sub. Which train was your favourite and what do you think about the trains stopping over the railroad crossings in Arlington Heights?
Filmed Tuesday, February 20, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Chessie System B&O 6240 GP9 still running the rails of the South Branch Valley Railroad. As of late late 2023. Between Green Spring and Petersburg, WV. Omnitrax took over operations of the short line from the state rail authority. They are still hauling chicken feed to Moorefield for Pilgrims and the Potomac Eagle still has their excursion runs. They also have a GP9 that still has the B&O markings. You might catch some live action where the SBVRR connects to CSX at Green Spring. Have a nice day.

Hammerhead forward for maximum grade crossing runner smashing capabillity. The parked train problem used to happen quite a bit in Milwaukee when I was a kid in the 70s. The 35th Street yards would be plugged solid and the Milwaukee Road would have to park trains on the mainline in Wauwatosa along State Street. This would jam up 12 crossings and people would have to drive miles out of their way to cross the tracks. The solution was the Milwaukee Road went bankrupt and a lot of their traffic dried up. Great video as always, enjoyed it much. Thanks JT!

The CSX mixed freight was awesome JT! Really long too for not having a DPU. The massive steel slabs they roll into coils steel and all of the lumber cars were cool 😎! The LP tankers were likely 30,000 gallon capacity as LP is quite light compared to other liquids. And speaking of the new gondolas being tagged already, I can't believe people don't have anything better to do with their time than vandalize other people's property!!! 😮 An excellent train at 117 cars. 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤

That location with that very short section of guardrail looks like it may have been an intersection at one time , there is a street right on the other side of the tracks in line with that guardrail. I don't know, maybe? When that intermodal train slowed down to a crawl ,I thought oh no another hour and a half wait time! 😅 I also like your videos because you're not afraid to go off the beaten path to catch the trains. Always like your descriptions of cars & what their carrying. We use LPG to heat our farmhouse with. We also noticed those cars that we would call combo units that share axles making them 1 long car of 3 or 5 sections. We know that`s not the right name for them but we know someone out there will correct us. We see those long segment type of cars when we go alongside the UP rail line going to Oregon City to pickup grain for our thoroughbred horses of the living kind. We once had a horse become scared of the ground shaking under him from a slow moving fright train! He passed the train when he went to galloping! Turk was a very fast 3/4 Arabian/ 1/4 Welsh cross horse. Finally only a very steep hill we went up on a side street wore him out enough for us to slow him down. The train we never saw again as Turk had passed it by a long distance!
@JawTooth
@JawTooth 3 ай бұрын
Those are articulated flat cars used for intermodal freight. They make it difficult to get an accurate car count for the railfans. Turk is a good name for a horse. My horse would panic if he saw a train. I saw an Amish horse panic in Pennsylvania when a steam train passed him at a crossing. The horse did a wheelie. Lol. Thanks for watching my video and have a great day!

"What's the hurry, son?" Well, maybe it's to clear the route so that blockages like this do not happen as frequently. Maybe........ maybe not. Boy, I like that trackside view in Arlington Heights. In fact, that does it - I'm moving to Arlington Heights for a trackside home to view all this rail action. Or maybe I'll just set up a mobile home adjacent to a local yard down here in Dixie. Arlington Heights may not be so swift from December 1 to May 1. On the other hand, it ain't so swift down here from June 15 to October 15. Thanks for another great one, Brian. Love your videos.

For all the complaints about the blocked Crossing after the gates went up there was nobody waiting on either side. Those trains leaving town sure pour it on especially that first train. Even the Hammerhead was giving it's all. That first car proved once again heads up when around trains as that plate steel.was overhanging the edge of the car by a foot or two. Certainly plenty of action at that location and there's more than one Crossing in case you have to leave

Tyty I hope you're in Hamilton later this month. It's my favorite street running city. If you look up there's a camera somewhere on the main street used for Live Streams that lasts a half day or more each time. I can't remember the person's name, but I do remember their distinct yellow and black RR crossing sign icon. EDIT: LA Grange, KY Hamilton was featured twice this week I believe.

I think I know why . This sitting train is very long the siding is long enough for other trains to pass so the long train is stopped so several others pass the it moves on

@JawTooth Especially being bedridden more than I'd like, Jaw Tooth and my smart phone makes my day flow better. And while traveling, if you get stopped for a train, what's more relaxing than reclining back in your carseat, closing your eyes (IF you're feeling lucky), and listen and feel the vibration of the thundering giants, pulling and pushing everything we need and require, from every port of call. Thanks for your inspiring words. Blessings, J.T. 🇺🇲

Do you keep track of the numbers (4440) on the locomotives to see if you have any repeats, I've tried. I'm A NEW SUBSCRIBER! Plus, I grew up in Circleville Ohio, on the street across from the end of the siding where they placed the potash cars. Back in the day that was a busy rail yard and main Pennsylvania RR line servicing many Circleville business that are long gone. Great memories.

Cool, that is awesome! I would have loved to see what it was like back in the 70s when I was little. I don't keep track of the locomotive numbers

Great show. Looking at the map in Arlington Heights, Google shows 2 tracks for miles, why do they stop there?

Usually its because of Gest Street Yard being clogged or a crew runs out of time

A good NS grain train. It seems that most loaded trains of the like are nearly always just about the same length, 80-85 cars. Are there any regulations regarding the length of time trains can block a crossing, or is that up to each individual locality? Thanks 😊 JT! 😊😊
