I'm 41 and have NEVER been into boy bands. I initially wrote these guys off as another cheesy, manufactured group. BUT I WAS SO WRONG. They write/produce a lot of their own stuff and have very humble beginnings (they were industry underdogs that astonished everyone with their success -- including themselves). As they've evolved over the years, their lyrics have become more and more thoughtful and their messages deeper. They spoke at the United Nations and launched a campaign with UNICEF to end youth violence, and they take their new role as global superstars with humility. They are aware of how many people are looking to them as a source of strength and inspiration and they don't want to ever let those people down.

Black swan is a song about their fear to lose their passion about making music, they don't want to be like a work . Actually 76% are woman fans and the rest man. The top is 26% and are people around 40-49 years old. And distributed equally in other ages.

Glad someone shared about ages & genders as I cringed each time you both referred to "girls". Well James Corden isn't a female & is huge fan. So is Jimmy Fallon, John Cena, oh I could keep on naming but maybe you should look them up more. As even American artists • big name artists are into their music. Mix of females & males. Oh well.... I always enjoy watching reactions to the guys as it gives me just another chance to watch them. Yes I am female but I am far beyond the "girl" age. As I'm 65 years old. RM has collabed with Wale, Fallout Boy, the Chainsmokers, etc...plus did the OST for the foreign make fun of "Fantastic Four" blockbuster movie. Now that was whoa awesome. You ought to look it up. Will blow your mind. They go beyond Kpop or even Pop as they crossover into all music genres.

Bts Is south Korean group, this days people prefer don't mix them with kpop ** 1. They are 7, 4 vocalist, 3 rappers (2 underground rappers) all dancers 2. Bts compose and produce their own music, so is very personal, they talk about mental health, politics, society, their fans, self love, etc 3. They have a story behind their videos so is difficult to new people understand, we (the armys) have to read a several books and study set, philosophy, psychology and mythology to understand. Their last album for example was "map of the soul:persona" and is inspired by the psychologist book the map of the soul by Jung. 4. The army love them because they are good people who through a lot of bad things to be where they are now, and even being famous they stay humble. 5. They have a lot of genres and you can find subtitles in every possible language. **Bts always present themselves as a Korean group, and always said they don't want to be labeled in a genre or industry. The fans also do not want to be mixed with kpopers, (most of us aren't kpop fans) we don't have the same ideals*

Is this all live singing - Yes! They don’t lip sync. They train 16 hours a day to be able to sing while they dance. The one you thought was a girl is Jimin one of their vocalists and a contemporary trained dancer. He has the voice of an angel.

About the military service-they are not trying to get out of it. At a recent press conference a few days ago the eldest memberJin answered a question about saying he considered it a duty and if he gets the call he will answer it. Others have debated the issue of exemption-currently available to olympic medallists and classical musicians who win significant prizes representing the country, but politicians decided not to extend it because it would be too hard to decide what criteria to apply to pop bands-there are so many of them. My feeling is that the korean public would frown on idols 'getting out' of serving when all their fathers/husbands/brothers etc have had to do it.. but BTS is an unknown quantity becase of their unprecedents worldwide recognition. We'll see- Jin reaches the cut off age by the end of this year but until an announcement is made about it all bets are off.

It’s unfair that Olympic champions get redemption. I know they represent the country but at this point BTS represent Korea. They bring in billions for the economy, also when I think of Korea I think of kpop and BTS so... but if BTS wanna do military service we should respect their wishes ☺️💜

I promise you this , the more you dive into bts music and learn about them. You start to understand why their huge . And have a little More respect for them . I’m NOT asking you to be a huge fan of them , but understand the “why and how factor “ Bts is more then just a kpop group , more then just a boyband who caters to just teenage girls ( FYI their fanbase is diverse of all ages and race ) their a movement! BTS is huge is because they separate themselves from other kpop groups . They want their music to inspire change , motivate people and spread positivity. And challenge societal norms / stereotypes. The English translation of their korean name is “Bullet proof boy scouts “ Their name connects to their music. Bts is respected because they tackle a lot of issues and societal problems that occur within Korea that also RELATES to anyone in the world. Korea is known for mental health and suicide issues. It’s considered to be TABOO to bring up sensitive topics like this. You have to understand the country is very strict and conservative. BTS music tackles topics such as mental health, suicide, depression, addiction, parent abuse , anxiety, generation gap and differences between the old generation and new young generation, corrupt , academic system And teaching people about self love and self respect , self care . Their music connects to all ages/ gender : men , women , boy, girls . Which is why their fanbase is huge and VERY DIVERSE. So please don’t think their fanbase is just teenage girls . Overall , BTS is popular and highly respected because they work hard to become more then just a pop group , but a positive inspiration . They show music has the power to transcend and translate messages regardless of AGE, gender, race or religion .

Thanks so much for taking the time to write out this message to us. I'm going to read these comments to J tonight before we watch another BTS video. I had no idea they were this deep. I can understand why people might feel like we were ripping on them! No offense to our American boy bands but BTS is in a completely different dimension than them lol. Based on vocal talent, rapping talent, lyricism, dance talent, creativity, + deep meaning that kind of says f u to the critics and system. I'm very interested to watch them again and see if I can grasp their message with new info in mind. When I said young girls i was referring more to young adults because I am in my 30's (feeling old) and to be honest I'm not with it. Lol My days consist of diapers and laundry so I am sorry to say I have lost touch. 😂🤦‍♀️ It seems I have offended some and am so sorry if it came across demeaning to BTS. Every song of BTS have around 25% English in it. BTS is performing in artistic contemporary style dancing according to the music genre of music they write. They write all and produce all their own music. The person that choreographed this contemporary dance for them is Brazilian but most of BTS dance style is pop and hip hop dancing.

Just a heads up BTS ARE NOT A TYPICAL BOYBAND if you are keen on looking into them you’ll be pleasantly surprised and how much more they are. They started off as a hip hop group so naturally majority of their songs are rap based and the lyrics in every song always have meaning. Definitely react to bts crash course 2020.

I'm a 36 yr old ARMY💜💜 Considering my age, it's a given that I was around during the "boy band" era here in the US. I was never into BSB, NSync, 98 degrees etc. Nor was I ever ever a part of a fandom. My music always consisted of rap, hip hop, r&b, Latin music and even some country. Then BTS came into my life. To be honest I hate using the label boy band, I prefer using septet, or I simply call them a Korean group (super group seems more fitting lol) I wasn't very accepting at first because many of us just have all these assumptions/preconceived notions.... and tend to stereotype. I decided to give them a chance, listened to their music, learned about them, their story, their artistry......and now I can honestly say they are incredible, simply amazing, unlike anything I've ever witnessed. There's so much depth to them and once you dive in, you'll be in for an incredible ride! The fandom is crazy diverse, and although they do have younger fans, as many many artists do, most of their fans are adults. From 20 yr olds up to grandparents. This is so evident when you go to their concerts. Last year was my first time seeing them live. It was during their stadium tour at Soldier Field in Chicago....both nights were sold out. They were also at Rose Bowl and MetLife, 2 nights each....all sold out. It was an unforgettable experience 💜💜 Anyways, as someone else stated....we don't expect everyone to become fans, but after learning about them, there's no way you can't respect them. At the end of the day that's what it's about.... respect. I look forward to more reactions 🙂

I'm so sorry we came off this way to anyone! I only knew (or thought I knew 🤦‍♀️) what I said from stumbling across a couple of their songs on YT in the past. The comments have corrected that and I will share with J since their lyrics, message, skill, combined with where they come from def paint a complete picture of who they are. When I said young girls I was just basing off of some Jimmy Fallon (or kimmel?) videos I had seen before where they surprised some fans.
