Jay Cutler debunks the myth that Men's Physique doesn't train as hard as Men's Open bodybuilding.
Ever since the introduction and success of the Men's Physique division, it has been the subject of criticism by some vocal fans and even other pro athletes. Multiple reasons are cited, but these critics believe that Men's Physique is a less prestigious division and doesn't deserve the same respect. Many Men's Physique athletes have been offended by this and some, like Jeremy Buendia, have been very vocal about it. In our latest GI Exclusive Vault interview, Jay Cutler not only defends Men's Physique but also claims that they train harder than some Men's Open bodybuilders who compete in the Mr. Olympia.
GI VAULT - is an extension of our GI Exclusive interviews. The difference? These interviews come straight out of the Generation Iron vault from the cutting room floor of our feature film documentaries. With over hours of interview footage that doesn’t make it into our final films, we’re now releasing them out into the world.
Bodybuilding, fitness, weight training - all on the Generation Iron Fitness Network!

You can tell he tries to be respectful to everyone...bodybuilders aren't the only athletes out there in this type of sport and there are pros and cons to all of it and everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, he gets it and is super respectful...he surely also understands the craziness goes on in the sport with the extreme level needed to be the best.

@@EmirAssassin. Many of them are maybe dumb brutes, but Jay is definetely not one of them. Jay Cutler is probably one of the richest Bodybuilder when it comes to getting rich from business he has started. I think his net worth is around 30 million dollars. Yes Arnold is much richer, but Arnold got his money from being a Hollywood movie star and not from starting and creating his own businnesses. (Sorry my english)

Simply put, not everyone has the genetics to go step onto the men’s open’s bodybuilding stage. Some people try so hard, juice so much yet end up looking mediocre. I wouldn’t say some categories work just as hard or less, because some people have to bust their ass and some don’t, it wouldn’t be fair to qualify people based on their effort; genetics and muscle bellies, diet, body responsiveness to juice, sports science wisdom, these things play an equally important factor in the growth of a person and their eligibility for different categories. Nonetheless, let’s not shit on the time and effort someone puts towards their passion; juiced or natty, tree trunk legs or twiggies, tall or short, let’s pour a little love into the sport and let it become what it was always meant to be: a journey.

If you want to compete in the NPC, you're going to have to run gear bro. Just is what it is. That 250lb 12% monster you see is probably on 3 different compounds just on a cruise, not even talking about his blast cycle. If you want to stay natural, then compete in natural organizations. But if you're naturally 6'2" 220 in decent shape, then (depending on how long you've trained to get there) you probably have decent genetics for growth.

Given that MP has evolved to a point where half the stage (at all levels) would not qualify for CP (and who's to say how many if they were training lower body for competition!) that last part would mostly mean that women don't care about leg development. And nothing could be further from the truth than that! Women *love* legs. Also relevantly to your assessment, they *don't* care that much about tiny waists on men. That's mostly something us men care about! So when it comes to the physique standards at least (MP still has "prettier" competitors above the neck, though that too may be evolving; compare the 2019 MP and CP Mr. Olympias for example) I don't think the last distinction holds any more. More accurate to say women liked the old MP; or real, working fitness models, including the Instagram pretty boys who are decreasingly likely to even compete in the future in the division supposedly made for them.

@@sketchartphoto8117 In the first place, Kai Greene is bald, ugly, and 45. Of course he would not be put on Love Island. Are you really saying his problem is that his muscles are not small enough? How much trouble do you imagine Calum von Moger has attracting women? In the second place, I never said Open was the ideal men's look for women; clearly it is not. I merely said that whereas early MP was certainly the mainstream ideal for women, current MP certainly has moved away from that since half the contestants are too big for CP! Your perspective is the right idea; it's just hopelessly out of date. In the third place, on that note, I'm not sure what showing staged silliness from a prank/"pick up girls" channel creator for 12 year olds, who has competed only twice and whose "career" peaked four years ago when MP was very different, and whose "picking up girls" cringe eventually became KZbin's biggest joke, proves about whether or not today's MP has maintained the original ideal of being the best physique for attracting women.

Look mens physique is nice but having a upper body (middle abbs to arms chest and back) to basically look like arnold but not really and train legs. Edit: you should do it natty and if you wanna take gear think about it carefully.

Its all cosmetics and no real function thats about it. I have respect for Cutler he was and will always be the man who defeated Coleman. I doubt any of those dudes can run a mile less than 5 mins without gasing out. Its just a different concept in "Sport" where as long distance runner train for function. Cosmetics vs Function.
@insane020

A sub 5 minute mile is extremely hard and to do multiple times would be elite class. I agree it is cosmetic just your mile standards are really high

@@insane020 Just an example it put me off when calling these people athletes. When they dont train for actual function just cosmetic purposes only.

@@CapUnlimited If you train for it for a couple of months its easily possible compared to a sub 4min mile that takes world class endurance.

"I think the beginner guys it is awesome because you don't have to carry a ton of mass" Jay is trying to be diplomatic.. but in his eyes.. it is like a 50 meter race where no once is allowed to come in faster than 12 seconds... and he did it in 5.

In my personal opinion, "Men's Physique" is a men's beauty pageant and doesn't belong on a bodybuilding stage. Yes, they are in great athletic shape, aesthetically beautiful by the average non-bodybuilding fan's standard, but not having to show leg development by wearing board shorts? Bodybuilding is about building muscle in proper proportions over the entire body, all the muscle groups. Anything other than that should not earn an IFBB bodybuilding pro card. The "BB" stands for "Bodybuilding."
