Now that we’ve owned our Jayco Jay Feather Micro 171BH for a year, we’ve decided to put together an owner’s review. We absolutely love our camper. There are, of course, a list of items we dislike about the trailer, and a list of items we love. We’ll go over how we feel about the Jay Feather Micro 171BH now that we’ve had a year to get familiar with everything.

Thanks! I can't say for sure but these are the items I've noticed: - The front entry steps have 2 steps instead of 3 - The large window near the dinette is different. Ours has a corner that pops out, the new one appears to slide open - There are now straps on the storage cubes under the bed - They removed the cubby above the TV and moved the TV up - There is a different backsplash in the kitchen area - The bathroom door opens towards the bunks instead of towards the fridge - The light in the bunks has been moved - There are now tie downs in the bunk cargo area - There's a beer opener near the door - There is now a TV mount on the outside - They have Goodyear Wrangler tires instead of Goodyear Endurance tires - There is a different TV antenna on the roof and it has been moved. It's located where we had placed a second solar panel. - I've heard it no longer comes with a Furrion TV but still 12 volt - I've heard they have stopped coming with Blackstones but come with a similar flat top griddle

Thanks for the video my wife and I are looking to down size to this jayco line. We started in a 20ft and worked our way up to a 40 ft jayco 5th wheel. So it should be interesting going back. As for some of your problems we had the same pipe issue, I was able to losen that nut where pipe disconnect press up and re-tighten. With the bunkhouse door always lock the deadbolt first pull door handle to check then lock door handle. Those locks on the handles are not very secure. And lastly leaks in the corners of campers are super common in our jayco had one and so did our winnebago. Thanks again and safe travels

We have this exact camper, however our fridge is not set up to run on propane, that was one thing we were disappointed about. One issue we have had is the same as yours is the bottom big drawer, the bottom actually fell out. Warranty covered the repair. Another issue is our main door will not close without pulling the latch, shutting the door and pushing the latch back. That's just a minor issue, we've also had the same issue with the sink window blind. Other than that, WE LOVE THIS CAMPER!! There hasn't been a time that we have pulled into a campground that someone hasn't offered to take it off our hands lol. We live in Kentucky and have pulled it all over the state, we took it to the Outer Banks which I HIGHLY recommend, and we have pulled it to Missouri and Kansas. We are planning a trip to Lake Erie and to the Grand Tetons next year. I super excited to see another camper like ours as we have yet to see one on the road. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Angie! Sounds like some awesome adventures you have planned! Our front door handle is a little tricky to close as well but I've gotten so used to it I don't even think about it anymore. A suggestion for your drawer problem. I had a similar issue in my Wolfpup. The drawer was smaller ( not as wide) as the guides in the cabinet. Thought about use roller guides but that was complicated. What I ended up doing was to simply place a thin piece of plywood between the guides in the cabinet so when the drawer would move from side to side as it was opened it would not wedge itself between the guides. Great review btw.

I have a 2017 bh. In general I like it. Yes bunks are an issue hard for kids to get in. Plus with the walls it get very hot and stuffy in them, we live in Fl. So I install through wall 12 volt fans. Kids said they help a lot. We also had leaks, my camper has a front window. Well a piece of plastic was left on from shipping it looked like and caused seal on one side to not seat. Rotted wood on that side. Then when removing front wall I discovered a leak at corner of front wall and side. Two screws holding outside corner mounding ,trim were screwed through the metal trim creating a path for water. Another rotted area We have a small fridge under counter. Sales pitch says all wood cabinets. ,well maybe doors but frame is fiber board. The fridge had some water issues. This was kinda my problem. But after using the ice can miss the water drip tray and set on bottom of fridge. Then leak out onto fiberboard. Causing it to swell and separate I used rubber weather stripping to stop any water from leaking out.

Thank you for this presentation on your trailer very informative. What vehicle can haul this? Can a SUV 4 cylinder your 20 foot trailer?
@RoginaRoaming
@RoginaRoaming 2 жыл бұрын
It's about 4000 pounds dry, 5000 pounds fully loaded. I think an SUV with a tow package would work but we didn't have a great towing experience with our midsized truck (2011 Dodge Dakota). It was fine on flat land but struggled on hills. We ended up upgrading to a half ton (Ram 1500) and it tows great. Thank you so much for posting your review! This is the model I am thinking about purchasing. What do you think about the amount of kitchen counter space?
@RoginaRoaming
@RoginaRoaming 2 жыл бұрын
No problem! The counter space is tight but it works out. We use the kitchen table as extra counter space pretty often. It gets pretty cramped when you have dishes drying. We got a collapsible bucket that the dish rack can set in, that way we can put it on the kitchen table to dry without leaking water. That gives us back most of our counter space. We do the majority of our cooking outside so inside we mainly gather ingredients and do prep work. Since we're cooking outside we have the backsplash down on the stove and that gives us enough space to get everything done. I imagine if you cook inside a lot the counter space would be really difficult because we rely on that backsplash area. Every night I have several items I need to clear off the backsplash to get the stove ready for coffee in the morning.

hi thanks for this video ive been looking into purchasing a micro as well .... wanted to ask if you hired an rv inspector before u made the purchase ?
@RoginaRoaming
@RoginaRoaming Жыл бұрын
No problem! When we purchased we didn't get an inspector but we did bring our parents who have owned trailers and fifth wheels for many decades. I think having more eyes is helpful. We had prepared a list of items to check but since then I've found this list from Jayco which is much more complete: drive.google.com/file/d/1lJlOnpOX2d2S1FEYULf_5HzBZYaTH3fi/view?usp=drivesdk That checklist should give you a good idea of what to look for. In addition to that I would recommend bringing something you can plug into both the 110 outlets and USB outlets to make sure they all work. We brought a nightlight to test the 110 outlet and for the USBs we used some ear buds that had a case that lit as soon as they had power.

Dealer and resolved are rarely applicable in today's RV world. The entire industry needs a wake up call. Everyone that I know who's purchased an RV in the last three years is extremely dissapointed in the overall quality and frustrated with the manufacturers and dealers response towards honoring their warranty and wait times. Neighbor purchased a toy hauler almost 2 years ago. Used it for the first summer, found numerous minor issues. Dealer told him with all the delays to start a list. Bring the unit in at the end of the season and they would fix them. Dropped off in October. We're supposed to winterize immediately and then address the punch out list. Customer called first week to get an update. Was told winterization completed and would get to the other issues in the next week or so. Didn't hear back after a month. Called and told that they were waiting on replacement parts for several issues. 4 months later still waiting on parts so they decided to take the unit on a trip south and bring it back when they returned. Here's where it gets ugly. After traveling all day they pulled into a campground to spend the night. Got the unit parked and hooked up. Went to engage the slide on the passenger side and nothing. Checked the connections, then the breakers and still nothing. While they were trouble shooting that the wife asked wheres all this water coming from. Long story short. Winterization was never done. Multiple burst pipes. The slide motor on the passenger side was missing. Canceled trip and turned around next day, took unit back to the dealer and were told they would move them up to the front of the line address it asap. Neighbor called every day for next two weeks. Given the run around. Finally got a call that the parts were still on order for the original issues. What about the missing slide motor and the plumbing issues. Service manager said we don't know anything about that. Neighbor went up to the dealer next day and was told the unit was winterized in the fall as scheduled and that they must have used the water and it froze up on them after they picked it up. Told them it wasn't their responsibility. Same with the slide motor. Their not responsible for theft even in their yard. What's suspicious about the motor is the fact that they were told that they had been on back order for six months so chances are they pulled it off to satisfy another customer. Bottom line, it took another 3 months to resolve the slide issue and plumbing repairs at their cost. Neighbor is suing in small claims. The punch out list grew to over 20 items and the unit is sitting at another dealers lot now. They've decided as soon as they get it back to sell it.

@@RoginaRoaming Thanks! We'll be taking delivery on June 19th. So for your weights, did you do the 'part 2' of the weighing process? What I mean is after you've taken those weights you specified (assuming TV and TT were on separate scales) then you would raise the TT off the hitch so that it's full weight was now on the back scale. That would tell you the loaded weight of the TT itself and the tongue weight. So for example, if the weight of the TT now went up to 5000 it would mean that you have a tongue weight of 440, and you would expect to see a 440lbs reduction in the combined steer axle and drive axle weights of the TV. It doesn't seem like a lot of people do this, but our TV will be a Subaru Ascent so I have to pay very close attention to everything weight related.
@RoginaRoaming

No we didn't do that. We contemplated going through the effort but after seeing the weights we weren't worried about it. You probably already know this but be careful choosing a hitch for the Ascent. I've heard that Subarus have a solid body that isn't designed to work with a weight distribution hitch. The wdh could damage the body. I'm not sure if this applies to all models or not but seems worth researching.

@@RoginaRoaming Yes, you are 100% correct. An Ascent cannot use a WDH. That applies to all trim lines. This is a big topic on the Ascent owners forum. I'm in the process of ordering an Aluma-Tow hitch. It is an adjustable drop-hitch and lightweight as well.

It's a Full XL, so it's the length of the queen but not the width. We haven't had any issues with the size of the mattress. We do bring extra pillows to put on the headboard so that extends the length a bit more as well.

Yeah that would be nice. We used to store it under the bunks but we didn't really like that. Our dog always sleeps under the bottom bunk and he'd try to squeeze over to the Blackstone to lick it 🤦‍♀️ Plus, storing something that smells like food under our kids in bear country didn't seem like a great idea. So now we just keep it in the back of the truck. We got a carrying case for it and it works out pretty well that way.
