Hi there, also have the 7800x3d no issues so far, but the boot time I believe is related to the mem speed, I set my 6400mhz to 5200mhz and boot time went down from 30s to sub 10s, also lowered latencies to 26-32-32-83 works like a charm

Have you tried turning on Memory Context Restore + Power Down Enable? Settings might have a slightly different name in your BIOS, but basically this way it doesn't have to train the DDR5 every single time but rather uses the last known settings that worked fine, which has significally helped people cut down load times

I've found a HUGE culprit on AM5 boards for instability is the VDDP voltage, I've been investigating this problem for months now just out of curiosity. VDDP is the DDR5 modules on-board I/O, and AMD spec is 800mv with an absolute max of 1.100V. Too many people leave this on auto and it causes a lot of problems. My Asus board would not run any memory overclock stable until I discovered it was running this voltage in sync with VDD, so if I was running 6400mt/s RAM at 1.400V, VDDP would be at 1.400V too. Drop it back down to 900mv and I was able to have perfect stability and boot times of less than 10 seconds.

@@Davinmk The problem I've seen with the AMD stuff this gen compared to intel, is it usually doesn't crash it just starts to act funky and if you're only using it for a few benchmarks you might not even notice. Assuming you're on a decent AIO and not some custom loop monster, lock all the p cores to 5.7, e cores to 4.2 and whack on a negative 0.075 voltage offset. If cores hit 98c doing a cinebench r23 run then drop your power limit by 10w until they max out at 97c or lower. As long as you get through C23 runs without an error you should be good for a 24/7 undervolt at around 1.325v. Keep your c states on to keep the idle wattage in the 5w to 15w range. If C23 crashes, drop the p core clock back to 5.6 and/or drop the negative offset by 0.005 until it's stable (so you might end up at negative 0.060), then go one more drop of 0.005. Funnily/ironically enough, Jayz has a decent introductory video about it titled "How to keep your CPU from melting!" from 3 months ago that goes through the basics (although I think he's using a 13700k so ignore the actual numbers he's using). Also you can do what he's doing in XTU in your bios (pro-tip, hold shift when selecting "restart" in windows to bring up the advanced restart menu that you can select to jump into the bios). Also most everything said about the 13900k/ks/kf also applies to the 14900k with slight changes in the exact numbers. My 13900k runs on a negative 0.070v offset (and a change to MSI's load lite) with a 270w short power limit, and the hottest core doing a c23 run is under 97 on my 360aio with Kryosheet pad, no thermal throttling and cinebench score is not far off what I got at stock when I first built the system (where it'll suck down 310 watts and quickly throttles). It's 24/7 stable and runs games perfectly (in games it uses much less power and is nowhere near as hot). Oh, and make sure you pick balanced for your windows power settings, the higher ones will screw with your core parking & downthrottling.

When I first watched the video a before watching your reaction I thought his CPU install or chip must have been borked. It's like a pressure issue or a really bad combo with the board, ram, and memory controller. I have a 5900x and an RTX 4090 and though I don't have many issues I know the CPU is holding it back. My next platform will probably be Intel again in 2024. Being I'm on a $350 AM4 motherboard it is stable with CL36 B-die and 3600MHz. I had a horrid experience with ther R7 1700 and a pretty smooth experience with the 5900x but I have seen the DIP in some games. Plenty run great but the AM-dip seems to be real and especially on the multi-die parts. I want either Zen 5 or Intel's next CPU, but for now I'm waiting until those come out and people like you and TechYesCity look at it because you all are pretty honest with your findings. makes me even more happy i invested in AM4 instead of AM5 because i don't trust AM5 after they had issues with tha Ryzen 7000 CPUs at launch so yea now i don't feel bad upgrading my gaming rig from an i7 4790k to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D for gaming though my dedicated livestreaming PC is gettin a upgrade from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 5700X and also i don't think DDR5 is worth goin' for rn and also DDR4 ram is way better and cheaper imo

It was dead easy to build with the 7800X3D. No need for extreme RAM clocking because it's cached so I just went with bog standard 32GB 6000 RAM. AMD may not suit Frame Chasers but I wanted something simple, reliable and fast. 7800X3D is it.

Switched from a 5800x3D to a 14900k (Not the smartest money decision obv) but WOW is the desktop performance and frame pacing just better. It's weird but it feels like everything is smoother from desktop to gaming use.

I reckon the biggest issue for Jay is how many AMD fanboys there are watching techtubers and make up the target audience, and it's a real issue if the fanboys don't like what you tell them. It's why Shillware Unboxed takes it easy on every AMD product while shitting on anything Nvidia & Intel release. The "buy now" shit was just Jay getting annoyed at the never ending whining from people who complained they wanted to get new builds/products but were crying about the cost.

@@-Ice_Cold- It's now 6 years later and the likes of R5 1600 are struggling even more in most cases. Also, no sane person would expect more than 5 years of relevance out of an i5. Also, properly tuned 8700k still outperforms all 1st and 2nd gen Ryzens.

@@-Ice_Cold- It cost more than the 1st and 2nd gen Ryzens?!? What a load of bullshit!!! It was comparatively priced to R7s, especially around the launch of 2000 series (a friend of mine even got his for under $300), while the 1800x even launched with the price of $500!

Hey I am a CS ONLY player, My computer is built ONLY for CS. When I played CSGO I switched to Intel 12th from AMD 5600x bcoz you mentioned AMDip, and it just works, those micro stutters on AMD platform were gone. Now I switch back to 7800X3D coz Source 2 engine take advantage of 3D vcache and perform better than Intel platform, and i don't have any issue like booting time, memory EXPO, AMDip what so ever, I want to justify that If you play CS2 only like me, 5800X3D or 7800X3D is still the best choice, better TDP, ITX build friendly, EZ PBO for those who don't wanna fxxk around settings. As always nice content and have a good one.

I've given AMD a go twice, both times they lasted a week and I end up back on Intel. Good on AMD for making a comeback and adding competition, but they have a lot of weird stability issues that fans just ignore, at stock the 5900x I tried would just hard reboot on idle doing nothing, sadly it wasn't just me.

dude I love you're videos and agree with most of your points (personally own mostly intel and nvidia systems, 10+ of them including 4090 i9 13900ks, lol actually have no AMD GPU's atm) but would you really prefer it if it was just intel and nvidia as the only choice? I realize you never said that, but the message seems to be that. At least AMD are putting some sort of competition on the table. Otherwise we would likely be screwed with pricing. And would likely be getting shittier products as there would be no motivation to innovate.

My very first custom build was an Athlon XP, then Athlon 64, and the Athlon 64 X2. They were great CPUs. I switched over to Intel when Core 2 Duo released. I wouldn't mind going to AMD again if everything lined up just right. I stopped overclocking after Core 2 Duo and don't mind running memory at officially supported clocks. Long post times and widely unstable fluctuating framerates would irritate me the most if I ever ran into them. I'll have some serious thinking to do when I finally upgrade from an i7 9700K.
