I haven't yet watched this interview in full. But Jay said on various other occasions that he himself and every other contemporary writer should be thankful to Stephanie Meyer for at least bringing in a huge chunk of a generation into reading books. Interesingly, he's also a huge fan of the Vampire Diaries TV series. He's weirded out by the vampire romance aspect of centuries-old beings falling in love with high school / teenage girls, but apparently he's not totally immune or anti to the narrative itself. Hard to tell. EotV shifts the focus away from that, clearly.
