@@Username-2 Well its not really an investment, its speculation, More like real estate than stocks. If you buy stocks you're giving your money to say a steel company for them to use with the promise of a return on your investment, hopefully with interest, when you buy a car or a house and expect to sit on it then sell it in 5 years you are speculating, there is no positive effect on the economy or anyone else at all.

Same concept as keeping toys in boxes. Wear and tear causes depreciation in value. However for someone who has all the money in world and late in his years having an investment such as this is an a non issue. My hope is they're all put in a museum before he dies so they're not sold off by family

I Believe he Really had OTHER PROBLEMS like Transmission linkage stuck in two gears, cause it's damn near impossible to have a TWO CYLINDER Steam Engine get stuck on top (or Bottom) Dead Center. Happens All-Too-Often with Single Cylinder Steam Engines, but Twins Generally have Offset Crank Journals that Eliminate That Problem.

@@oldSawyer If they are properly quartered, meaning to say offset by exactly 90°, it's impossible to get them stuck. But I don't know about Car Engines that rev relatively high, maybe they would run very rough if they weren't offset by 180° as a Diesel or Petrol Engine would be. But Stationary, Locomotive and Ship Steam Engines alway are quartered for that exact Reason.

@@oldSawyer It's more a Question of RPM though. I did some rough Calculations on Steam Locomotives and it boils down to about 150-180 1/min with the very visible Balancing Weights on the Wheels. I used to work the steam trains at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World. Not much different. They're oil burners too. Used compressed air to purge the system of the condensed steam and to start the atomization of the fuel. Used a ball of cotton to start the fire in the fire box. When we would have Top Dead Center of the piston, we would take the J-Bar (used for controlling the length of the stroke of the piston in the cylinder) adjust it to reverse with the steam cocks open (so not to create too much of a jerk release some of the pressure in the cylinder and make it easier to maneuver) and then back into forward. Worked like a charm! Brings back a lot of memories of working on the trains!

truth be told: steam engines are as green (or even better than that) as electric cars. and the fuels are completely renewable. i mean: main fuel is water and the burner fuel can be made in a biogas generator, your average wastewater cleaning facility or from old french fries oil. and the green part is actualy about their thermal efficiency.

@v12tommy
@v12tommy 5 жыл бұрын
Probably nothing. Here in Colorado, if you have a fleet of at least 25 cars, you can be "self insured", so if you are in an accident you just pay out of pocket, because they know if you don't pay, the person can sue you and you have enough equity to pay.
@v12tommy
@v12tommy 5 жыл бұрын
It depends. The more cars you have, even if you do have to pay insurance, the less it costs per car. I think they figure you can only drive one at a time, so the more you have, the less you drive each car. My Tesla costs me a little over $850 a month for insurance, but my friend who owns a fleet of 6 of them, only pays $1100 a month.

I was always amazed watching my uncle toil on rebuilding these types of cars over the years. He loved it. Jay, thanks for carrying this on!
