For any car nut, Jay is a beloved, national treasure. Kudos to Dave for instantly reacting to the fire, saving Jay from a more serious outcome. The pictures of the burns that Jay suffered are far worse than what the car community first believed, especially considering his relatively short stay in the burn treatment center. A credit to the doctors and nurses who worked on Jay & the burn healing technology we have today.

Any Gas fire is horrible but Jay mentioned two things on his Adam Carolla interview he scrunched up his eyes tightly shut, yelled for Dave then DIDN'T breathe until fire was out. That quick thinking protected his eyes and his lungs from inhaling burning gasoline. I should add Jay mentioned Dave had some pretty severe burns himself from grabbing Jay. Dave the man is A HERO too! for more in depth interview check Adam Carolla radio interview Dec 9th here on YT

"72 years young" is just a feel-good, truth-denying anesthetic people use to numb the fact that death is near. Physical age doesn't lie. Mental age is a thing, and sure...Jay is still a young man at heart, but he ain't got much left in this world, and he'll find out it was all a waste of time. We do not exist to realize our dreams and wishes. We exist for a purpose that will have eternal repercussions, and that's precisely what mankind has been fighting against since the beginning!

I can relate, I'm also a burn survivor. I am 98% of my body covered in 3rd degree or worst burns. I was burned at almost 2 years old, had a 1% chance to live, and here I am today at 38 years old. I, too, wish my skin had healed the way Jay's did but then again, I'm so used to looking this way that I wouldn't want to change. I understand the looks! I can't go anywhere at all without scaring some kids, people literally stopping what they're doing, some snickering, gasping, disgust, and even anger. I've had people tell me I should be hidden in a basement and how dare I show my face in public. I've even been told I should just have died or to go die. @@Username12665 Yes you’re right, it is a problem. There is definitely systemic racism and anyone who denies that is racist, basically. I’m white and it’s obvious to me. You see it all the time in how cops treat black people, and also in healthcare settings, retail, job sites, etc. and it’s unacceptable and yes it is my job to call out anything I see that is wrong. But having said that, I have many health care professionals as friends who definitely would treat a person of color with the same respect and care that Leno got. It should be the same for everyone and it’s terrible that it isn’t, but there are a lot of really good people in healthcare along with the bad. Don’t count the good ones out.

I am a retired trauma anesthesiologist physician. Jay is totally lucky. I have worked with burn patients and in burn operating rooms. Burns are about the worst thing that can happen to anyone. Head swells up like a pumpkin with ears, toes, and fingers melted away. Huge Eschar develop which can affect breathing if chest involved. You can lose all your skin which means body fluid balance is a huge issue. Multi organ failure is a real possibility. Lots of fluids/blood with weeks to months of rehab. Scar formation with limited mobility if involves arms/legs. Really be careful with flammable liquids. Jay looks great. Great doctors and nurses for sure.

Incredible healing. Even *more* incredible attitude. And an absolute hero for a friend. I'm so glad they are both okay! And ... just a reminder. Lukewarm or cool water is best for burns -- not cold. I know this from docs who treated my second degree burns years ago. Continued blessings on Jay Leno, his friend Dave, his wife, and all of us.

You could tell Jay was self-conscious when Dave was talking about the accident and the whole idea he clutched his best bud to his chest to put out the fire risking his own safety said it all that shows how a friend who truly loves you acts. And he even joked about his wife but thought of her first before himself as That is LOVE. Very Humble and humorous and amazing he didn't have any pain meds, as a disabled person i can't imagine

Back in October I stopped to help someone who looked like they might need help and it turned out to be Jay Leno and his friend!! It turned out that he didn't need help but he was such a nice guy and he even shook my hand and talked with me for a minute. Such a great person and I'll never forget that day. To be completely honest, it made me tear up afterwards because he's one of my idols.🥺😊 I'm glad to see him doing well.

You don't expect any less from Jay when it comes to comedy, and the fact he doesn't cry & moan about this incident is so respectable. Thank God for his recovery, and the fact he's not totally scarred by the burns, it's a miracle. 🙏

I have been waiting to hear about Mr. Leno's recovery. I'm amazed at his skin, his going right home to his wife so she wouldn't worry, and the repair to his hands and arms. His humor, his friend's quick thinking, it is all amazing. To all the doctors and nurses, thank you for helping save a wonderful man. God bless, Mr. Leno!

My hubby did the same when he had a 3rd degree electrical burn on his arm. They wanted to admit him right then and there, but he told them he had to go home and let his wife know and to get some clothes. They told him to do that and come straight back, which he did. He was in the hospital for for almost two weeks for treatment and skin grafting. they gave him such great care.

Jay is an inspiration. As a car guy he teaches us and entertains us. As a human he is just a good guy. I've not got to speak with him but I'll never forget. I was at the post office one day leaving in my old Suburban and who do I see cruising by? Jay himself. I was unable to speak. Awesome seeing him out and about. Glad to see him doing good.

Ok, so hearing this story.... Dave is a freakin' hero and an amazing friend. He saw Jay's face on fire and rather than run off to get something to extinguish the fire, he grabs Jay's head (still on fire!) and pulls it into his own chest. He pulled the fire TO HIMSELF. That's just amazing. I'm so very very glad Jay is doing okay - and even seems that he's doing well psychologically (although it's not uncommon to make jokes when inside you are really deeply damaged).
