Sad to learn that jay went through constant abuse as a child and to this date has to carry so much anger. On the plus side he had a great mother and caring cast members. What he may not be aware of was how many kids he encouraged and saved. Jays role of a joyful positive kid had a tremendous influence on kids who were trying to survive violent dysfunctional families. During that time I remember going to my neighbors house to watch t.v. because our electric was turned off ( not unusual ) It was a relief to be free from drunken rages and have at least one ray of positive light coming through the storm. Jay along with a few other child actors played roles that gave hope to kids trapped in a living hell that there was a better world out there. Our nation is facing an increasing suicide rate among teens and young children. Jay may not know how many kids survived growing up back then rather than taking that route. Yes we can say Dennis the Menace was an imaginary over the top positive series but for young minds dealing with violence they look for anything to escape and Jay was like a life preserver. Fast forward fifty years and the drugs, violence and dysfunctional families are even worse. I drove school bus and everyday when I drove the first and second graders home they trusted me so much as to point out the drug dealers and everything else going on the streets. When it came to drop them off at home they dragged their feet or would cluster around my seat because they didn't want to get off. On my last day as a bus driver one little boy came up and wanted to give me a small rubber dog as a gift. His tattered clothes told me that it may be the only toy he had so I politely told him thank you but I think you should keep that for yourself. It was only after I saw the tears well up in his eyes that I realized that he was giving it to me so I would always remember him. When I graciously accepted his gift he lit up like a light bulb. When a child is so broken, so forgotten, so impoverished that they even seek out the attention of a bus driver who is only with them a half hour a day then I can't help but be thankful to the teachers, their aids and yes to you Jay for making a difference. You all have made or are making a great sacrifices at a tremendous personal cost. Remember what Jesus said. Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for such is the kingdom of heaven. We can't say that in our public schools anymore and Hollywood which is destroying child actors and millions more watching their degenerating programs doesn't want to hear it . But to them or to anyone who abuses a child on either side of a church door remember what Jesus said. Woe unto you who offend children, it will be better on judgement day that you were never born. Jay your past tormentors are just that past and will someday pay the price. I pray that you will turn your anger over to God and take some solace that you did more for thousands of children that no amount of money or trophies could ever repay you for. Thank you and God Bless.

I never knew about the pain you endured, Mr. North, until this video. Only your healing matters, and I pray you've been able to get past the greed, ugliness and abuse your experienced and step into a new awareness. Please know that all who have caused harm to others will be held accountable to a Higher Authority (God), according to my understanding. Rather than look back at those movies with disdain and unhappiness, I hope that you will be able to look at that little boy on the screen and say: "Wow, what an incredibly strong young man you were. I don't know how you made it through it, but I'm so glad you did!"

Jeepers, that’s very sad to hear, Jay. You seemed like a swell person to be around. It’s still nice seeing your smiling face on the show with everything going on in the world today.

Now that was sure one hell of a strong kid. I know none stronger who could've suffered though that misery and still come out playing a cute and lovable character. That by itself deserves an award. I know the TV world isn't real. But you sure fooled me boy. God bless you.

Mr. Jay North😢 I pray with all my heart ❤️ that you have extreme peace ✌️ in your life in this day and time. I have listen to your interview on how misused you were.in your younger days, and I am so hurt by what I am hearing. I am a 69 year old black woman, who still looks at the Donnie the Menace show almost every day. It makes me think of my good and bad times as a kids. It’s a place where I can escape from todays up’s and down as an adult. I would have never supported that show if I knew that you were being abused. I totally understand when you say you are not going to give a Dam,about other people,

I'm so sorry Jay North. It did cheer alot of people up but I don't believe in sacrifices. I am so sorry you went through this especially for others personal gain and being publicly known. Thank you for sharing your truth with us.

I met this dear man back in 1999...at a convention...he was wonderful...so friendly...but I didn’t ask him a word about his celebrity world...we talked about every day things. I knew of the abuse, and having survived abuse myself, I know that his appearances were because he needed an income...but he really didn’t want to remember that show.

Why would those two treat their own nephew that way? I don't get it,I would have confronted them later on in life and demanded answers about why they treated me that way.

I went to two schools with Jay North. Mariam Colbert School on La Brea Avenue south down the street from Pinks Hot Dogs which is still there. The school closed I believe in 1967or8 after it came out that they had lost their accreditation. Then a number of the students went to Rexford Jr./Sr. High School on Olympic Blvd. near Rexford Rd. In Beverly Hills. As I remember he wasn't real sociable. I don't think I ever talked to him. He was a year or two grades above me. Glad to hear that he got his life together

So sorry to learn about this. Because the show was one that a lot of us kids watched. I almost wish that I hadn't found this. Because I somehow associate the show "Dennis the Menace" with the mischievous innocence of my own youth. I'm sorry Jay had to experience this. And it almost hurts to hear him express how he feels about his association with the show. But my perception of it isn't/wasn't reality. His...is. And I don't blame him for expressing himself. I'm just sad to find this out. And I hope he's well and happy.

This is sad...I'd like Mr North to relax himself in the fact that EVERYDAY some child or adult is escaping thier troubles watching his brilliant performance and portrayal of a happy, optimistic child

Cant blame him for hating the series at this point. Recently starting watching the series for the first tine and he is amazing but I can easily understand not wanting to be a part of those memories.

it is very sad that he was treated badly as a child by his aunt and uncle, but what is even more sad is that he is still living it and has not been able to find peace in his life through forgiveness. My prayers are that he turns to God in Christ and finds the peace that only a personal relationship can bring through knowing the Lord Jesus Christ.

I'm sorry jay. I can relate bec I experienced the same abuse. It changes who u are, who and what ur meant to be, and stops u from loving Yourself. That is, until one day u realize that u Are Special, and begin to love Yourself. Just know u were very much loved and in spite of ur own pain, 'You' helped so many kids watching.. to forget about their own. ♥️
